impossible escape?
Greetings:
I've searched the R archives with no luck.
I want to print this to the screen as part of on-screen instructions as an
example:
default.FACTOR.labels <- c("Probe1", "Probe2", "Probe3")
I can't seem to trick gsub()
gsub("'", "\"", "default.FACTOR.labels <- c('Probe1', 'Probe2',

tws bug ? (LSI SAS 9750)
Hi,
I have been trying out a nice new tws controller and decided to enable
debugging in the kernel and run some stress tests. With a regular
GENERIC kernel, it boots up fine. But with debugging, it panics on
boot. Anyone know whats up ? Is this something that should be sent
directly to LSI ?

Please help....normalization by the median of some control genes
Can someone show me some code to do normalization by the median of some control genes for the example below?
Many Many Thanks in advance
This strategy selects a subset of genes (called ?control genes?) and makes the median of their data distribution similar across arrays.
??? ??? id1??? id2??? id3
control1??? 0.8??? 0.7??? 0.6
control2??? 0.6??? 0.2??? 0.4
probe1??? ??? 0.3??? 0.2??? 0.5

R version of SAS/IntrNet
Does an R package exist that is similar to SAS/Intrnet (http://support.sas.com/documentation/onlinedoc/intrnet/index.html) that will allow users to take parameters passed to it by a web request, produce results and return them to the web-browser in HTML format? I tried looking through the package descriptions, but didnt' see anything like this. Any direction or suggestions you could provide

merged files
Hi,
i have two files (file1.txt and file2.txt) which i would like to merge,
based on certain criteria, i.e.
it combines data based on matching geneID and exons.
i have used the merge option, but it does not give me the desired outcome.
merged.txt shows the result i would like.

Loading Problem
I'm using R0.90.1 on Win98. I'm trying to load an image I saved yesterday
but I keep getting the following error:
Error in load("C:/temp/245amData.R.RDa") : restore file corrupted -- no data

The image is 4,890KB.
The image Can anyone tell me how to solve this problem? I'm sure I saved
the image correctly.
Thanks.

[Fwd: Re: [Fwd: Re: Still ATAPICAM Lockup/Slowdown]]
Thomas,
Have spoken to Soren, from my bootlog he believes that the problem is in
atapicam causing the system to lock up. He is happy to answer some
questions but doesnt have time to delve into atapicam himself.
Did you author atapicam, I have seen your name on the sourcecode, can
you help me further? Whats next?
Thanks Adam.

4.8-RELEASE not identifying scsi drives
A problem with 4.8 reported by myself and Aaron D. Gifford.
Anyone in -stable who knows more?

I'm assembling a Compaq 1850R with attached storage system. For the
built in scsi controller (sym), there are three drives internally on
channel 1 + 5 drives externally on channel 2.

bootstrapped cox regression (rms package)
Hi,
I am trying to convert a colleague from using SPSS to R, but am having
trouble generating a result that is similar enough to a bootstrapped cox
regression analysis that was run in SPSS. I tried unsuccessfully with
bootcens, but have had some success with the bootcov function in the rms
package, which at least generates confidence intervals similar to what is
observed in SPSS. However, the

Autofilling a large matrix in R
I wish to create a matrix of all possible percentages with two decimal place
percision. I then want each row to sum to 100%. I started with the code
below with the intent to then subset the data based on the row sum. This
works great for 2 or 3 columns, but if I try 4 or more columns the number of
rows become to large. I would like to find a way to break it down into some
kind of for loop, so

Persp Plot
I am trying to graph two planes on the same graph using persp(). I can only
get one plane to plot at a time. Can someone explain how I can graph two
planes on the same graph using persp? I've looked throught the
documentation, but cannot find any references to appending a persp plot.
Thanks.

Mann-Whitney U Table
Does anyone have a piece of code or know how I can use R to generate a table
of
critical values for the Mann-Whitney (aka Wilcoxon Rank Sum) test.
Ideally, I'd like a table that contains the critical values for any two
samples of size 3 through 30. I could use Monte Carlo simulation or the
normal approximation when n1 and n2 are greater than, 10, but I figured
someone may know how to

I am running the qwilcox procedure and it is producing incorrect results. For

dwilcox(.025, 3, 6) should equal 7, but it equals 2. The critical values are
not set being returned with the correct values. I've

RC2 better than RC3? Graphed!
Well, this question comes once and again.
I have RC3 and Garf's RC2 tuned versions (160 and 350) in a nice graph.
Nobody should be surprised that RC3 is better, but in some cases GRC2 shows
better EAQUAL/bitrate results. There seems to be room for improvement in RC3
with some tweaking.
See it by yourself at

Better to use a single large storage server or multiple smaller for mdbox?
I'm trying to improve the setup of our Dovecot/Exim mail servers to
handle the increasingly huge accounts (everybody thinks it's like
infinitely growing storage like gmail and stores everything forever in
their email accounts) by changing from Maildir to mdbox, and to take
advantage of offloading older emails to alternative networked storage
nodes.
The question now is whether having a

The most straightfoward way to write a function that sums over the rows of a matrix
Hello!
I am trying to write a function with vector and data.frame parameters that
uses the sum() function and values from the rows of the data.frame.
I need to pass this function as a parameter to optim().
My starting point is:
observs <- data.frame(y, x1, x2, x3)
Fn <- function(par, observs) {
sum( (y - (par[1] * (x1 + 1) * x2^(-par[2]) * x3^par[3])^2 )
}

Kernel 2.6.35 and .Net Framework
Is there anyone who can run .Net Framework 2.0 with the stable kernel 2.6.34 or 2.6.35?
I can successfully install dotnet2 both with kernel 2.6.33 and 2.6.35, but can only run it when booting into kernel 2.6.33. With kernel 2.6.35 I don't have the permission as user to run dotnet2, and get an access denied.
An example:
