Problem in S4 object displaying from within a Java application using JRI
I am using JRI (Java R Interface) library in order to call R from within my
Java application. But since the "rmu1" and "rmu2" ,see the following code,
are objects of type S4 once i run the application the value of Null will be
returned for both of them. On this regard, i would appreciate it if anyone
can tell me how i am going to display and/ or convert these objects to Java

Rserve and creating a list of lists
Hello,
I have some code which generates lattice objects. The function
recieves serialized forms of the lattice objects which it then
unserializes and then adds to an ArrayList<REXP>.
REXPRaw rser = new REXPRaw( target ); //target contains the raw
serialized forms of lattice objects
rconn.assign("temp",rser);

Hi, Simon et al.:
????? My attempts to install rJava 0.9-12 from source failed under both
macOS 10.15.4 and Windows 10.

Help: rJava ubuntu 12.04
Hola buenas,
utlimamente estoy teniendo más problemas con mi equipo de los que debería.
Bajo windows no me funciona bien Rstudio y bajo linux soy incapaz de
instalar rJava. ¿Alguien que sepa de Linux me podría ayudar?
He probado a instalar los openJDK y nada.
También he probado, para instalar Java, a hacer un:

Call and memory
I use a large real matrix, X, in C code that is passed from R and
transposed in place in the C code. I would like to conserve memory and,
if possible, allocate space for only one copy of X -- hence I would like
to pass a pointer to the data in the X object to the C code.
The Writing R Extensions manual says that neither .Call nor .External
copy their arguments. They also say that these

not safe to return vector pointer
Hello All,
I recently upgraded from R-1.1.1 to R-1.2.2.
I have an R function that uses .Call() to
return a list from C code. The C code
has the form:
SEXP function(SEXP var)
{
SEXP rlist ;
PROTECT(rlist = NEW_LIST(3)) ;
VECTOR_PTR(rlist)[0] = NEW_INTEGER(1) ;
VECTOR_PTR(rlist)[1] = NEW_STRING(1) ;
...
UNPROTECT(1) ;
return(rlist) ;
}

Destination directory creation
Hi people. My first post so be lenient :)
I have read stuff on rsync, looked through the options and read the man
page but cannot seem to find an answer to my problem.
Ok.
I have a script which connects to a remote machine via ssh and pulls
back a list of source directories/files from a config file on the remote
server. I then loop these lines and do an rsync for each item to pull
the files

The last column in iris is actually a factor. That's stored as an
S3-classed integer vector

Single-threaded aspect
Thank you Simon for the detailed reply. That explains much more of what I
was looking for from the R side.
Dirk, I'm sorry if I seem hung up on anything here but I am trying to
understand the details. My reply about XPtr or XPtr on arma/Eigen was to
confirm my understanding was correct, which it appears it was. I was not
aware the RVector/RMatrix objects don't connect to R as I am just

Just print the string you are asking to R to evaluate. It doesn't make
any sense as an R expression. Fix that, and things will work.

Cannot Compute Box's M (Three Days Trying...)
Does it work if you supply the closing parenthesis on the call to boxM?
The parser says the input is incomplete and a missing closing parenthesis
would cause that error..
// create a string command with that variable name.String boxVariable =
"boxM(boxMVariable [,-5], boxMVariable[,5]";
// try to execute the command...
// FAILS with org.rosuda.REngine.Rserve.RserveException: eval

You were trying to eval an expression that you constructed in Java. I
was suggesting that before you eval it, you print it.

Right, that's what I was suggesting you do. Now you've fixed the

Thanks Duncan. I can't tell you how helpful all your terrific replies have been.
I think the biggest surprise is that nobody appears to be using Java and R together like I"m trying to do. I suppose it should be a surprise since there are no books on the subject and almost no technical documentation other than a few sites here and there.

Hey Duncan,
Hard to debug? That's an understatement. Eyes bleeding....
In any case, I tried all your suggestions. To get "integer" for the final column, I had to change the code to get integers instead of strings.
double[] d1 = ((REXPVector) ((RList) tableRead).get(0)).asDoubles();
double[] d2 = ((REXPVector) ((RList) tableRead).get(1)).asDoubles();
double[] d3 = ((REXPVector)

Timing of SET_VECTOR_ELT
Assume a C program invoked by .Call, that returns a list.
Near the top of the program we allocate space for all the list elements. (It is my habit
to use "xyz2" for the name of the R object and "xyz" for the pointer to its contents.)
PROTECT(means2 = allocVector(REALSXP, nvar));
means = REAL(means2);
PROTECT(u2 = allocVector(REALSXP, nvar));
u =

I'm not sure what you mean. Could you please be more specific?
If I print the string, I get: boxM(boxMVariable[, -5], boxMVariable[, 5])
From this code:
.
.
.
// assign the data to a variable.rConnection.assign("boxMVariable", myDf);
// create a string command with that variable name.String boxVariable = "boxM(boxMVariable[, -5], boxMVariable[, 5])";
