Displaying Equations in Documentation
I'm currently working on writing up some documentation for some of my
code, but am having the darndest time coding in equations. For
example, the equation in the following:

summary statistics about the error in thoe variables.

Line breaks in mathematical formulae in Rd files (PR#13287)
Hi,
This is a problem about writing R documentation (R-exts 2.6). The
command "\deqn" defined in "Rd.sty" is:
\newcommand{\deqn}[2]{\[#1\]}
which will put mathematical formulae in the "displaymath" environment;
that means line breaks are not allowed (or will not be shown) in
formulae, but sometimes we do need multiple lines of formulae. One
solution is to write

Maths in R documentation (PR#523)
The document R-exts contains the following example of using
mathematics in R documentation.
\deqn{p(x) = {\lambda^x\ \frac{e^{-\lambda}}{x!}}
{p(x) = lambda^x exp(-lambda)/x!}
There is a syntax error in there, but that's not my point.
The problem is that using "R CMD Rd2dvi" I find that putting
the alternate forms of the equation on top of each other doesn't
work.

Two problems building a package
Hello all:
I have written a few R scripts and am trying to turn them into a package for
submission to CRAN. All of these scripts are R code only, no C or C++ or
anything else. I'm working with R 2.0.1 running on a Windows XP machine. So
far running ">rcmd install --build --docs=normal mypkge" seems to work
(i.e., the library "mypkge" is installed in R\rw2001\library and

Possible bug in the Rd parser?
Dear list,
I got an automatic email complaining than some of my packages didn't
pass 'R CMD check' for R-2.10.0 alpha anymore. Both of them make use of
the "cases" LaTeX environment.
Inspecting the log outputs I got:
LaTeX errors when creating PDF version.
This typically indicates Rd problems.

Long equation in documentation
I have a long equation that I need to break in the R documentation of a package or it trails off the right hand side of the page. Here's the formula:
\deqn{Cov(r_{ist}, r_{iuv})= [.5\rho_{ist}\rho_{iuv}(\rho_{isu}^2 + \rho_{isv}^2 + \rho_{itu}^2 + \rho_{itv}^2) + \rho_{isu}\rho_{itv}+ \rho_{isv}\rho_{itu}-(\rho_{ist}\rho_{isu}\rho_{isv} + \rho_{its}\rho_{itu}\rho_{itv}) +

Displaying Equation With Numerator and Demomenator On A Plot...
Is there a way to display something like the quadratic equation, i.e. with a numerator and demonator on a plot?
I think there is a way to create the equation in Latex, but wasn't sure if this format would translate to plotting.
\begin{equation}
? x = \frac{b +/- sqrt(b^2 - 4*a*c)}{2*a}
\end{equation}

R-alpha: Proposal for a new R doc source format
With help by Kurt and Martin I have written a short proposal for a new
R doc source format that should be easier to parse using, e.g.,
perl. There should be especially a clearer distinction between text
and keywords.
Here we go, please make comments, corrections, etc.
Best,
Fritz

Line breaks in mathematical formulae in Rd files
Hello,
I would like to implement the feature request described here:
https://bugs.r-project.org/bugzilla3/show_bug.cgi?id=13287. I think
this is a very worthwhile feature.
However, I need just a little push in the right direction. When I
added either a new command or change the old one to use eqnarray as
proposed, the "\\" newline characters were not properly passed to
latex - even

Estimating model parameters for system of equations
Hi all,
I'm trying to estimate model parameters in R for a pretty simple system of
equations, but I'm having trouble. Here is the system of equations (all
derivatives):
eqAlgae <- (u_Amax * C_A) * (1 - (Q_Amin / Q_A))
eqQuota <- (p_max * R_V) / (K_p + R_V) - ((Q_A-Q_Amin)*u_Amax)
eqResource <- -C_A * (p_max * R_V) / (K_p + R_V)
eqSystem <- list(C_A = eqAlgae, Q_A = eqQuota,

Using MathJax in R's help system
Hi,
I am doing a small experiment to test if I can use
MathJax ( official site: http://www.mathjax.org )
in R's html help pages (i.e. options(help_type='html'))
and it seems working with some minor modifications.
The screenshot (rendered by Firefox 4.0 beta and with STIX fonts) of
the help page in html format with MathJax enabled is at the following

solving cubic/quartic equations non-iteratively
To R-helpers,
R offers the polyroot function for solving mentioned equations
iteratively.
However, Dr Math and Mathworld (and other places) show in detail how to
solve mentioned equations non-iteratively.
Do implementations for R that are non-iterative and that solve mentioned
equations exists?

rendering mathematical equations
Any recommendations on how I can get mathematical equations into my
resulting html? (Besides using x^2^ type markup.)
I figure I could parse out equation text from my main text before
RedCloth ever sees it... and then maybe create png''s somehow from it,
putting the links to them back into the main text before handing it
over to RC. But I don''t know of a util that will generate

R in rearranging equations
Hi,
can anyone tell me if R can be used to rearrange very complicated equations
in terms of one of the variables?
I have:
dx/dt = a*b*m*y*(1-x)-r*x
and, having set:
dy/dx = 0,
need to rearrange in terms of x. The problem I have is that I don't know how
to rearrange equations when the variables are not yet defined (I get
messages warning me that x etc can't be found). I'm not sure

solving system of equations involving non-linearities
Hi,
I would appreciate if someone could help me on track with this problem.
I want to compute some parameters from a system of equations given a number of sample observations. The system looks like this:
sum_i( A+b_i>0 & A+b_i>C+d_i) = x
sum_i( C+d_i>0 & C+d_i>A+b_i) = y
sum_i( exp(E+f_i) * ( A+b_i>0 & A+b_i>C+d_i) = z
A, C, E are free variables while the other

Simultaneous equations
Dear all,
I am relatively new to R and have had some difficulty in understanding the
user manual for a package that I have downloaded to evaluate non-linear
simultaneous equations.
The package is called systemfit.
Does anyone have any experience of this package?
What I am trying to do is solve a non linear simultaneous equations...
Could anyone give me an example (please) of the code that

System of related regression equations
Dear all,
I would like to estimate a system of regression equations of the following
form:
y1 = a1 + b1 x1 + b2x2 + e1
y2 = a2 + c1 y1 + c2 x2 + c3 x3 + e2
Specifically the dependent variable in Equation 1 appears as an independent
variable in Equation 2. Additionally some independent variables that appear
in Equation 1 are also included in Equation 2.
I assume that I cannot estimate these two

Non-negative solutions to complicated equations
Hi all,
I have a system of 3 equations with many defined parameters and 3 variables
I need to find solutions to. I actually know the solutions I'm aiming for
(0.07,0.287,0.0061) but R tends to give me (0,0,0).
I tried the "BB" package but don't really follow how to refine my solutions
from that; these are wrong so far. Here's my code from trying that:

FileFormatConverters: no equations in docx documents?
Hello.
I need to view some docx files that embed equations. I installed wordviewer, then FileformatConverters in wine 1.5.3. Both install ok, and I can view docx files, except that the equations don't appear at all.
Does anybody have a solution?
Thanks!
