summary in Hmisc and Latex
Dear all, With the latest update of Hmisc I no longer have any problems with latex. However using the ctable option produces latex code that at least on both the miktex distribution at work and mactex distribution at home refuses to run due to an extra blank line inserted between the multicolumn lines in the latex code... It runs fine if the line is deleted or if the ctable option is left out.

[Hmisc] latex() with ctable=T inserting unwanted empty line in .tex file when used on summary.formula(method="reverse") object
Dear useRs, When I'm using Hmisc's latex() function with ctable=TRUE on a summary.formula with method="reverse" object and saving in a .tex file, the latter contains an unwanted empty line which makes compilation fail. Here is a brief example : library(Hmisc) test <- data.frame(a=sample(1:30,10),b=sample(c("good","bad","ugly"),10,replace=T))

latex{Hmisc} cannot find xdvi on MAC OS X
Hello. I am posting this on behalf of a student in my class. I have been introducing them to R. I suspect that the problem I need help with is not so much an R issue, but a MAC config issue, but I don't have enough MAC experience to know what to do. Anyway, on to the problem. We are using Frank Harrell's Hmisc and Design packages. This student also wishes to use the latex formatting

Problem with R CMD check and the inconsolata font business.
I have just installed R version 2.14.0 and tried to re-build and re-check some of the packages that I maintain. I'm getting a warning (in the process of running R CMD check on my "deldir" package): > * checking PDF version of manual ... Hmisc Latex Question: column headings and Major Column Headings not properly alligned
Dear R users: When I create a table without Major Column headings, my *regular* column headings appear correct in the typeset latex file. The major row heading and row groups are as they should. w <- latex(mytab,title="",file="tab/my.tex",ctable=TRUE,caption="Descriptive statistics by

dealing with sweave.sty and pgfSweave
Hi, I would appreciate some help with a very basic problem in using pgfSweave. That is, dealing with the sweave.sty file. After some googling, I did the following : (1) copied the sweave.sty file to my trial folder and (2) added the line?? \usepackage{Sweave}?? to the Rnw file. Are there more elegant ways of dealing with this issue? I have read something about letting Miktex know about the

Latex problem in Hmisc (3.8-1) and Mac Os X with R 2.11.1
Dear all, I did post this more or less identical mail in a follow up to another question I posted, but under another heading. I try again, but now under the correct header. upon running this code (from the Hmisc library-latex function) I believe the call to summary.formula is allright and produces wonderful tables, but the latex command results in a correct formatted table but where all the

there are fontencoding problem in Sweave
I want write article by russian language using Sweave. For cyrillic text LaTeX use T2A encoding \usepackage[T2A]{fontenc} But in Sweave.sty we find: \RequirePackage[T1]{fontenc} It is source of critical problem. For example Rnw file $ cat estimation.Rnw \documentclass[A4paper]{article} \usepackage[T2A]{fontenc} \usepackage[utf8]{inputenc} \usepackage[russian,english]{babel}

Installing texlive dependencies
Hello ALL! I am running Fedora 16 x86_64. Due to some dubious problems, that i couldn't resolve, with the TeXLive (2007, which is a default), I removed it. That removed R as well, and some other dependent packages. Then, I installed TeXLive 2011 from CTAN. However, when I wanted to install R, from Fedora's repositories, it asks for some TeX dependencies (for example, tex-preview,

Sweave-LaTEX question
Hi: I am working on a publication and I have heard about LaTEX but I haven't actually tried to learn about it until today. I've found a few examples but I can't actually make them work properly. I have a couple of questions: Does LATEX have to be installed on your computer? How does the xtable package and Sweave work together? How can I make the code below create a table as pdf file?

Installing LaTeX class files not available in Debian packages
I apologize for abusing the list somewhat but there is some connection to R. Several of the example files in the knitr package for R use the tufte-handout class, which, AFAICS, is not available in Ubuntu or Debian packages (please correct me if I am wrong). The source files are available at tufte-latex.googlecode.com (a.k.a. code.google.com/p/tufte-latex) and I presume they should end up in a

Importing Time Series Data for an R Beginner
Hi, I'm trying to learn R for a project I'm working on. I know several programming languages, so I'm comfortable with the syntax. What I can't figure out is how to import the file of time series data that I have and parse it into individual series. The data was given to me in Excel, but I can output it to tab-delimited or csv. I've been able to pull in the entire table with
