Installing smooth.spline command
Hello
I have installed R-0.90.1 on my Linux (Redhat 6.2) machine,
unfortunately I am not able to use a number of commands like e.g.
smooth.spline and predict.smooth.spline.
The error messages being given by is:
Error: Object "smooth.spline" not found
With the command library() I have checked or the libraries for the
smoothing functions are there, as shown below.

0.63 missing .pl files in etc?
Just grabbed the R-0.63.tar.gz from CRAN. Again during the build make
fails. bin/build-help did not have exec permissions. After that, it
failed for missing *.pl files called from build-help. I just copied
them from an R-devel I had. Then make docs worked. However,
LibIndex was not built. I am on an hpux-pa1.1-hpux-10.20 using egcs:
gcc version egcs-2.92.18 19981101 (gcc2 ss-980609 experimental)

R-0.64.0 Install - Cannot find eda.so
Hi,
I'm new to R. I'm trying to install R-0.64.0 on FreeBSD 2.2.8 (also
new to FreeBSD). First, I run ./configure and then make. Make gives me
an error message because it cannot find "eda.so" when trying to link
it with line.o and smooth.o (see output below).
I would appreciate it if somone could help me to fix this error. Thanks.

Issues with Ubuntu 22.04 and Installing the Latest Version of R (R 4.4.1) to Docker Image
And sorry for the spam, but I meant to say that the Dockerfile is basically following the steps from https://cloud.r-project.org/bin/linux/ubuntu/ as Lauren was trying to do but start by installing the pre-requisites needed to deploy the r-base package on a Ubuntu 22.04 Docker image (which is NOT a base 22.04 but a minimally striped version of 22.04).

Yes, keep the $(lsb-release -cs) there. This allows you to change the version of the OS without having to change anything else (for instance we are migrating all of our docker to 24.04 LTS right now, so we only have to modify the FROM entry and all of our Dockerfile will still work).

Using data frames for EDA: Insert, Change name, delete columns? (Newcomer's question)
I am finding complex analyses easier than some elementary operations in
R. In particular I want to do some low level exploratory data analyses
with data in a data frame but cannot find commands to easily insert,
remove (delete), rename, and re-order (arbitrarily, not sort) columns.
I see that the micEcon package has an insertCol command, but that is for
matrices, not data frames. I have looked

Issues with Ubuntu 22.04 and Installing the Latest Version of R (R 4.4.1) to Docker Image
Hi Marco,
Thank you for the follow up email.
In the line below, do I replace $(lsb-release -cs) with jammy (Ubuntu 22.04) or leave it alone:
Add-apt-repository ?deb https://cloud.r-project.org/bin/linux/ubuntu jammy-cran40/?
It?s good to know about installations for Bioconductor. I am not currently using it, but I may need it in the future for other projects.

Hmm? It?s picking up the pre-made binary from ppa:marutter/rrutter4.0 using apt-get install. Isn?t it what Lauren?s trying to do?

Lauren, little oversight from my Dockerfile, if you want to follow the CRAN steps and get the R from the cloud.r-project.org server, you want to replace
&& add-apt-repository -y "ppa:marutter/rrutter4.0"
With
&& add-apt-repository "deb https://cloud.r-project.org/bin/linux/ubuntu $(lsb_release -cs)-cran40/"
The ppa repo is Michael Rutter personal repo

Hi Dirk,
Thank you so much for looking into this when you got home. I greatly appreciate it.
I was actually in the midst of writing to everyone the following message:

Hi All,
I have some good news. ? My docker image is now up-to-date with R version 4.4.1.
I first had to clear a bunch of unused data using docker system prune ?force. Apparently, it cleared over 32.53 gigs of data, and

You need _two_ distinct commands. First
install.packages("BiocManager")
and second once that is done use it to install 'ggbreak' from BioConductor

That's very kind but recall that Lauren wants _a pre-made binary_ of R.

The guest code in this case doesn't know that it will be returning. This

Oh, again, sorry for the spam but the problem Lauren is seeing is when she is trying to sign the key. Installing gnugpg usually takes care of that problem.
