How is the relation between Frequency and Counts in hist/density defined?
Hi all, I'm looking to add a "density" smoother on top of a hist when Freq=T. In order to do this I can use the relation between count and density, but I would like to know if there is a way for me to predict it upfront. Here is an example: set.seed(242) z = rnorm(30) hist_z <- hist(z) hist_z$counts / hist_z$density # the relation is 15 # why is this 15 ?? # So I can now do:

Truncated labels in hist (PR#8864)
Hi, people. Executing the following command: hist(rpois(100,5), labels=TRUE) yields a graphic in which some labels are truncated (on an X11 device). The truncated labels are those over the highest bars. The hist function should ideally manage enough room for the labels, automatically. (Specifying ylim solves my problem, but yet, hist could be frienlier.) --please do not edit the

hist.default()$density
Dear developers, the current implementation of hist.default() calculates 'density' (and 'intensities') as dens <- counts/(n*h) where h has been calculated before as h <- diff(fuzzybreaks) which results in 'fuzzy' values for the density, see e.g. > tmp <- hist(1:10,breaks=c(-2.5,2.5,7.5,12.5),plot=FALSE) > print(tmp$density,digits=15) [1]

Capturing R console output into a file (sink+savehistory ??)
After reading more, I understand I didn't formulate my last question correctly, so please allow me to rephrase: What I am looking for is a way to save the R console session output. That is, a command that would combine the results of using: ?sink # And ?savehistory My motivation for this is that doing it will allow someone who is a blind user of R to be able to easily export his results to

The following code is giving me problems. I want to export densities of a distribution to a csv file. At the bottom of the code I use the hist function to generate the densities. But hist is returning values greater than 1. I don't understand, why. Any help you can supply is greatly appreciated. # Set word path dir<-"~/Research/MR Distribution Analysis/" setwd(dir)

Hello dear R-help mailing list. I wish to be able to have htmlParse work well with Hebrew, but it keeps to scramble the Hebrew text in pages I feed into it. Windows 7, update.packages problem: "unable to move temporary installation"?
Hello all, I am using R 2.13.0 with windows 7, after giving my user full privileges to the R folder (as described here<http://www.r-statistics.com/2011/04/how-to-upgrade-r-on-windows-7/> ). bug with rpois (PR#9106)
The R poisson random generator rpois appears to have a bug for theta 10 or larger. The sample mean of the pseudo variates is too small: sample mean approx theta - 0.5. I use Version 1.1.1 (August 15, 2000) Of R on a Dell OptiPlex computer with the Windows XP Professional operating system. Has this bug been fixed in later versions? Is there a way to have 'comment' keep a list?
Hello all, I recently discovered the "comment" command. I see it can only hold a vector of characters. Is there a way (or an alternative), to make it possible to have it keep a list? (for example, to keep different pieces of information like date of creation, information of each variable and so on) The closest solution I can think of is using 'names' on the vector, like this:

Sample Poisson Distribution
Hi, I'm completely new to R, I am all at sea with the interface and the confusing help files, so would appreciate some help to do a simple task. Need to present the mean and variance of 100 different samples of poisson distributions (N=1000, with fixed lambda) in a file in two columnns, and then produce histograms. So far I have figured out: > N <- 1000 > x <- rpois(N, 3.1) ,
