How to change the label position in axis() ?
Dear R People, I'm working on a plot function to produce the graph shown below. One of the features my supervisor does not like is that the labels in the Y- axix are shown vertically. Is there a way to change that to horizontally ? This is the axix() function I used : axis(2,at=seq(nstrat),labels=snames) The labels (snames) are: SEV1:HU:C, SEV1:MU:C, SEV1:MU:L, SEV1:RT:C and SEV1:RT:L,

changing the magnification of axis annotation
Hi all, how do I change the magnification of xaxis annotation? I need a smaller axis text size in some of my plots. I tried cex.axix=0.5 in plot(), but this doesn't work. Drawing dendrogram
Dear all, I would like to draw a dendrogram and mark some parts/branches (by using "segments") including their labels. If I draw it without specifying the length of x axix, I am able to do that (as in My dendrogram 1 of the following codes). However, if I want to specify the x axix, I am not able to draw marking line (by using "segments") including labels (as in My dendrogram

Moving-Tiles Bootstrap
I wish to perform moving tiles bootstrap resampling on some gridded data meteorological data. I've many years experience with S-Plus, but it has no way to perform a moving-tiles bootstrap. Within R I've learned how to use quadratresample() with the spatstats package and would be happy to simply use empirical percentiles if generating the replicates were fast, but it isn't. So,

tick marks on mfrow=c(3,3) plot
I am generating an array of similar plots using the par(mfrow=c(3,3)) method. Everything works fine except the plot only puts y-axis tick marks on cells in column one and x-axis tick marks on cells in row three. I would like tick marks on both the x and y axix of all 9 plots in my array. I am generating plots using the following two functions three.by.three.plot <- function(ss) {

build R source package in place from CVS?
I'm currently using R CMD INSTALL to build and install some of my own custom R packages. Basically, I use a script which first builds a tarball of my R source code, and then calls R CMD INSTALL, which builds and installs that source package from the tarball, including re-compiling all my C code from scratch every single time, which is both totally unneccessary and tediously slow. What I

predict.rpart question
Dear All, I have a question regarding predict.rpart. I use rpart to build classification and regression trees and I deal with data with relatively large number of input variables (predictors). For example, I build an rpart model like this rpartModel <- rpart(Y ~ X, method="class", minsplit =1, minbucket=nMinBucket,cp=nCp); and get predictors used in building the model like

what is patched and what is not?
I'm trying to pick a kernel for ext3. Looking at the web page (http://www.zip.com.au/~akpm/linux/ext3/), I see little that clues me in to the fact that "most" of ext3 is already in (some|most|all) of the 2.4 series kernels. Am I correct that most of the patches listed on the web page now are actually bug fixes to the existing ext3 code, as opposed to previous patches that actually

Function completely locks up my computer if the input is too big
Dear r-help, Somewhere in my innocuous function to rotate an object in Cartesian space I've created a monster that completely locks up my computer (requires a hard reset every time). I don't know if this is useful description to anyone - the mouse still responds, but not the keyboard and not windows explorer. The script only does this when the input matrix is large, and so my initial

Shared Call and Bridged Line appearances on Polycom IP501
Greetings, I am trying to get either of the above features to work with *, but can't seem to get it quite right. If anyone has them working, I'd sure appreciate an extract from the relevant config files. Or, maybe I'm tilting at windmills, and * doesn't support them - in which case, the underlying business need is to provide the one incoming call on more than one

horizontal and vertical line with arrow in a plot
Hi r-users, I would like to add a plot of vertical line segment with arrow from (77,.6) to (77,0) and also a horizontal  line segment with arrow from (0,0.6) to (77,.6) .  So far this is what I have: plot(sq, cdf, type="l", lwd=4,col="blue",xaxs="i",yaxs="i", xlab= "Rainfall (mm)", ylab= "Random no.", main="Random number  and

Dovecot chgrp actions on new files/folders
Timo, I did further study of the user/group permissions. Applying the below patch will make no difference to virtually everyone out there. Those that have default uid/gid ownership won't see any change as the gid already matches so the fchown() action won't be attempted. Those that have sgid will still see the normal expected fchown() enforced by the kernel which becomes a duplicated

Mounts on Mac, Linux but not Win98 - bad password
I am trying to set up Samba for the very first time in my life on a SlackWare Linux 7.1 system. I'm using kernel 2.4.2, and the Samba 2.0.7 that comes precompiled with Slackware 7. I'm only moderately clueful at this point, but I have experience with other Linux and networking stuff. I can build Samba from sources if you think that would help. I ran through the diagnostic tests given
