Combining: R + Condor in 2009 ? (+foreach maybe?)
Hello dear R-help group (and David Smith from REvolution), I would like to perform parallel computing using R with Condor (hopefully using foreach or other recommended solutions, if available) for some "Embarrassingly parallel" problem. I will start by listing what I found so far, and then go on asking for help. So far I found the a manual by Xianhong Xie from Rnews_2005-2 (see page

Condor and R
Hi, I was wondering if anyone has successfully linked R against the Condor libraries so that R can be run as a Condor job in the "standard" (not "vanilla") universe. The advantage of this would be that due to checkpointing, jobs can be suspended and transferred to another node. There is a good overview by Xianhong Xie here:

R and condor
Hello, I would be extremely grateful if anyone is able to provide any (rather obscure) advice on using R with Condor. I think I'm following Xianhong Xie's instructions (R News 5(2) 13-15) correctly, but my job just stays held in the queue (for days / months). I've checked condor_status to make sure there are plenty of machines available, but can't see any way to attack the

Openning multiple (writing) connections to a single file - possible ?
Hello members of the R-help group. I am trying to run multiple occurences of R (through the distributed computing of Condor), and have all of them write their output into one source. It is similar (I believe), to running R several time on the same machine, and running on each instance of R the same script. In that script there is a line saying "write some text into a file", and I wish

Ordering variables in a parallel coordinates plot
Hello all, I am searching for a way in R to re-order variables before presenting them in a parallel coordinates plot. So far I didn't find anything within a R related context on how to do this. I did find some texts talking about how it should be done in general, here is such example: http://tinyurl.com/ycnsjpe Is there a package or an example of the variable ordering (for parallel

Adding a "description" meta-tag to the R homepage (bump)
Hello dear R-devel, I am allowing myself to bump this issue again (half a year later) - I think that the www.r-project.org website could benefit from having a description meta-tag. Could anyone please let me know who to contact regarding this? With much respect, Tal On Sat, Apr 2, 2011 at 4:24 PM, Tal Galili <tal.galili@gmail.com> wrote: > Hello Peter, > > Here is what google

Plotting with "Hebrew" text
Hello all, I imported a txt file with Hebrew column names, and wish to use them for my plots. I found that the Hebrew text is jumbled (Example: .áéèçåï.òöîé.) How do I fix it so to be able to see the characters in a correct way ? Capturing R console output into a file (sink+savehistory ??)
After reading more, I understand I didn't formulate my last question correctly, so please allow me to rephrase: What I am looking for is a way to save the R console session output. That is, a command that would combine the results of using: ?sink # And ?savehistory My motivation for this is that doing it will allow someone who is a blind user of R to be able to easily export his results to

Condor Cloud + oVirt Node
I've discussed this a little with Ian off list, but relating to: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Features/Condor_Cloud Condor Cloud aims at setting up a bunch of Fedora nodes to act as a mini-cloud managed via the Condor grid infrastructure. So the natural question was... Why not use oVirt Node for this rather than a full Fedora OS install? Pulling condor-cloud and condor RPMs into the core

Marginal Homogeneity tests for sparse matrixes ?
Hello people, I am in need for testing Marginal Homogeneity for sparse (more then 2X2) matrixes. After searching, what I found by now is that for more then 2 by 2 matrixes, one turns to "stuart maxwell tests" that are available in two packages: irr - see: stuart.maxwell.mh coin - see: mh_test But I couldn't find in the documentation how valid the results are for sparse matrixes,

New Installs, Same Trouble Loading doBy and coin Packages
I tried Tal's suggestion of deleting the doBy and coin packages and then reinstalling them from a different mirror. The first install was from the Harvard mirror and the second was from the Case Western Univ. mirror. The new packages generate the same errors when I call them using the library() command. Also, I tried to load these packages using R and its script editor thinking that the

Time variables changed after reopening a .RData file (bug?)
Hello all, I recently opened a backup ".RData" file which contained (three) "time variables" created in the session I had a few months ago. Upon inspecting those variables I suddenly realized they all got an extra hour to them. So a variable like: morning <- as.difftime("08:00:00") That was defined a few months ago (and saved inside the .RData file) will be:

Getting htmlParse to work with Hebrew? (on windows)
Hello dear R-help mailing list. I wish to be able to have htmlParse work well with Hebrew, but it keeps to scramble the Hebrew text in pages I feed into it. For example: # why can't I parse the Hebrew correctly? library(RCurl) library(XML) u = "http://humus101.com/?p=2737" a = getURL(u) a # Here - the hebrew is fine. a2 <- htmlParse(a) a2 # Here it is a mess... tricky (for me) merging of data...more clarity
Hi Again, Thanks very much for your response. It seems my example got rearranged (transposed?) after I posted it. Hopefully this example will be more clear. I have one file (ex. sheet 1) that will have a column for individuals (ind) and a column for the date (date). I would like to merge this with another file (ex. sheet 2) that has both the 'ind' and date column as well as associated

Condor cluster setup advice (pointers) needed
Dear Experts, Could someone recommend some "quick and dirty" HOWTO on condor based cluster? A did a bunch of cluster setups, I always used PBS (or torque lately). But my professor wants his to be Condor. I started reading Condor documentation, and it is vast. And quick route, like: architecture chart, and parameters I need to configure on master/submit, and compute nodes - somehow
