How to make nice tiny sized figures on graphic devices producing scalable vector output?
Hello!
Usually whenever I want a tiny plot, I just create it as is (or even large) and then downscale it in the end application like LaTeX of MS Word. However, all these graphic devices like postscript, pdf, win.metafile retain physical sizes, so it would be natural if I can just insert graphics as is provided those have proper physical sizes embedded.
The question is what is the best

Can an xyplot() plus legend be saved as an Enhanced Windows Metafile (EMF)?
I am trying to save some graphical output including a legend in the
Windows Enhanced Metafile (EMF) format.
This fails when xyplot() is used rather than plot().
Here is a simple example:
require(lattice)
a <- c(1:10)
b <- c(2,4,5,2,3,5,7,8,9,5)
# Output can be saved (or copied to the clipboard) as a Windows EMF image
file
# from the Graphics Device output window.
plot(a , b)

Bad EMF export
Hello dear useRs,
I'm trying to export a barplot into an emf file. My problem is that
the plot is properly printed into the file, except the bars that do
not appear :(
I've experienced some problems also with simple points plots, in which
points did not appear (same problem).
Can you help me please ?
Thanks in advance !

The best way to end up with WMF files
Hi all
I am doing some stats work for a group of biologists
who require windows metafiles (*.wmf) for their publications.
To create these, I appear to have two choices:
1. Restart my machine in Windows and use savePlot
2. Keep my machine in linux, save as another format,
then convert.
I'd rather stay in linux; but how do I get wmf files? I looked
at using ImageMagick's convert,

PowerPoint
Dear All,
I am looking for the best way to use graphs from R (like xyplot, curve ...) for a presentation with powerpoint. I used to save my plot as pdf and after to copy them as image in powerpoint but the quality is not optimal by so doing.
Another completely independent question is the following: when I use "main" in the xyplot, the main title is very close to my plot,

Re: win.metafiles in linux and R
I posted a similar query some months ago. Some people answered stating that
win.metafiles were not available for R in linux. However, I was suggested
to use the package RSvgDevice, which allows transforming any graphic device
into Scalable Vector Graphics format, this file can then be opened with
sodipodi, and really impresive stuff can be achieved. I also noticed that
OpenOffice for linux has an

Windows metafiles (emf) under Linux
G'day Folks,
The R-help list has had assorted threads over the years on the best way for
Linux users to produce EMF files, mainly for exchange with Windows users.
There have been various suggestions for how this may be possible or ways
around the problem, via other formats, but none have seemed very
satisfactory.
I've found what seems to be a quite simple way to produce EMFs from

problems with .svg
Dear everybody!
I am making a graph in R and employ pstoedit to expot the .pdf-output
to .svg.
When I open the .svg with firefox I get the .svg-code shown wit the
following header:
"Mit dieser XML-Datei sind anscheinend keine Style-Informationen
verkn?pft. Nachfolgend wird die Baum-Ansicht des Dokuments angezeigt."
Which information should how be included?
Thank you in advance.

converting coordinates from utm to longitude / latitude
Hi,
is there a function in R to convert data read with read.shape and which is originally in UTM coordinates into longitude / latitude coordinates?
I found the convUL() function from the PBSmapping package but I have no idea how I could apply that to the read.shape object.
Many thanks,
Werner

postscript preview
gday R friends,
I was wondering if anyone could help me with some graphics issues please.
I'm processing R in batch on redhat6.2 with some graphics to be imported
into msword on NT. For scaling within my doco I want some vector type
graphics. win.metafile doesn't seem to be supported on redhat which gives
me postscript. postscript is ideal but doesn't contain a preview so I

Sweave: multiple graphic formats, e.g. win.metafile
Dear R devel,
being constrained to a windows environment at work and having colleagues being accustomed to the Microsoft Office Suite, I was looking for a way to have the RweaveLatex driver for Sweave automatically generating 'win.metafile's in addition to the pdf graphics.
Without this functionalilty, the generation of emf-graphics is quite laborious, I think:

List to Array
Hi,
this is probably the easiest thing to do but I manage
not finding the answer:
I have a list with matrices of exact same format and
headers. Now I would like to transform the list into
an normal array. What is the proper way to do this?
as.array changes the entire format and right now I
only found the method of creating a new array, going
through the entire list and copy the matrix in each

oodraw command line usage
I use R to create .eps graphics and then use oodraw to convert them
to .emf versions. (One reason I do this is that OOo tends to
re-size .eps files and I haven't found a way to stop it or change it
once the graph is resized. .emf files are not distorted by OOo -
fortunately.) I use a command like:
> oodraw filename.eps &
The gui opens and then I select .emf and do an export. I

I want to plot the unstadardized version of a normal plot. Can you explain why that is not working?

Font family not found in Windows font database
Dear R Gurus,
I have a fairly simple problem, but I haven't been able to find the answer on 'the google' or in the r-help archives.
I am generating plots on both Windows and OS X where I need to guarantee that the font used is Arial. In my plot command I specify 'fontfamily="Arial"'. The problem is that on Windows I'm getting the following warning:

Savin Copier Print Processor
I have FreeBSD 5.3 running on an Sun Ultra 10. I installed Samba 3.03, from patching SWAT now says version 3.07. I am having an issue printing from Windows through Samba to Savin copiers (model 9935DPE and 9945DPE) when downloading the Windows drivers directly from the [print$] share. When I print a test page, the orientation of the lettering is correct but the letters are gibberish. The

ylim in barplot()
Thank you David,
That's a nice workaround using plotrix::barp(), but that doesn't explain
why ylim doesn't work as intended (or at least, as I expect it to work),
or why xpd has no influence when using devEMF::emf()...
The problem with saving directly in RStudio is that it requires to
manually save the plot, and this becomes troublesome when there are a
lot of plot commands in a
