extract variance components
HI, I would like to extract the variance components estimation in lme function like a.fit<-lme(distance~age, data=aaa, random=~day/subject) There should be three variances \sigma_day, \sigma_{day %in% subject } and \sigma_e. I can extract the \sigma_e using something like a.fit$var. However, I cannot manage to extract the first two variance components. I can only see the results in

NUMA split mode?
Hi, HP says that what they call "NUMA split mode" should be disabled in the BIOS of the Z800 workstation when running Linux. They are reasoning that Linux kernels do not support this feature and even might not boot if it?s enabled. Since it apparently was years ago since they made this statement, I?m wondering if I should still leave this feature disabled or not. More recent kernels

[LLVMdev] LLVM 2.9 Fails to Compile some CPU2006 Benchmarks on X86
Hi, We are using LLVM 2.9 (with the llvm-gcc front end) to compile and run the SPEC CPU2006 benchmarks on x86. We are compiling and running the benchmarks on a an Intel Xeon E5540 processor running Ubuntu 10.10 (64-bit version). For the native x86-64 target, we are using the following command-line arguments: -O3 -march=core2 -mtune=core2 and are getting compile-time errors on the gamess and

[PATCH] fix memory allocation from NUMA node for VT-d.
The memory relating guest domain should be allocated from NUMA node on which the guest runs. Because the latency of the same NUMA node is faster than that of a different one. This patch fixes memory allocation for Address Translation Structure of VT-d. VT-d uses two types of Structures for DMA address translation. The one is Device Assignment Structure. The other is Address Translation

Why is cpu-to-node mapping different between Xen 4.0.2-rc1-pre and Xen 4.1-unstable?
My system is a dual Xeon E5540 (Nehalem) HP Proliant DL380G6. When switching between Xen 4.0.2-rc1-pre and Xen 4.1-unstable I noticed that the NUMA info as shown by the Xen ''u'' debug-key is different. More specifically, the CPU to node mapping is alternating for 4.0.2 and grouped sequentially for 4.1. This difference affects the allocation (wrt node/socket) of pinned VCPUs to the

Ok, I do see they had a series of MegaRAID SATA 150-xx and 300-xx cards, these were 64 bit PCI or PCI-X cards. 95Q9 does not appear to be a valid card number, 9240, 9260, 9280 are some pci-express SAS MegaRaid

rpm question
Hi everyone, I am writing a small tool that will compare a file on my machine with the the same file on an rpm repository and then give me a diff. E.g. # rpm-file-diff /etc/samba/smb.conf will show a diff output so that I can see at a glance what changes I have made to my local smb.conf file. I already know about rpmdiff but that compares whole packages and not files. Anyway while fiddling

[LLVMdev] Experimental Evaluation of the Schedulers in LLVM 3.3
Our test machine has two Intel Xeon E5540 processors running at 2.53 GHz with 24 GB of memory. Each CPU has 8 threads (16 threads in total). All our tests, however, were single threaded. Which result is particularly surprising for you? The low impact of the MI scheduler, the relatively good performance of the source scheduler or the relatively poor performance of the ILP scheduler? Thanks

Bug: noveau DATA_ERROR / CACHE_ERROR on Quadro NVS 290
Hi, there! Every once in a while / about once a day I have nouveau for a Quadro NVS 290 failing in my system from about kernel 3.10...up to now 3.14, so I finally decided to report this bug as it gets really annoying. After the bug appears, there are some (one per DATA_ERROR line) small 20x20 to 40x40 pixel sized odd shaped white block artefacts stuck on my (dual monitor) desktop. After a restart

CDF plot
Dear all, I have define a discrete distribution P(y_i=x_i)=p_i, which I want to plot a CDF plot. However, I can not find a function in R to draw it for me after searching R and R-archive. I only find the one for the sample CDF instead my theoretical one. I find stepfun can do it for me, however, I want to plot some different CDF with same support x in one plot. I can not manage how to do it with

Wine 1.2rc5 World of Warcraft crash
Hello all, My wife and I just recently went 100% Linux, meaning that we no longer dual boot to Windows for our regular gaming addiction. One of the games we both enjoy is World of Warcraft, and it has so far worked a charm using Wine 1.2rc5 (we started using Wine at 1.2rc3), but today the game was patched, and now it crashes on login. Samba Upgrade...
Sorry if this is a dup. I sent right before I subscribed to the list, so I'm not sure if it made it. I have just taken over a redhat system with Samba 3.0.0 configured with security = user, and domain logins enabled. I've included the smb.conf at the end of this message. I would like to upgrade to 3.0.10 for a numbers of reasons, one being security and one being that password changes

Do systems have to be IDENTICAL for live migration?
I have several systems running 64bit SLES11SP1. I''m trying to Live Migrate between a couple of them and it''s not working, although the same VM will run on each one starting it manually. The system are not identical. Would one expect migration to work between these two systems? See below. Thanks, James The first system is a ProLiant DL360 G6: Proc 1:2533 MHz Execution

[LLVMdev] -march and -mtune options on x86

I am running ALL my tests on an Intel Xeon E5540 processor, which is an x86-64 Nehalem processor. The OS is a 64-bit version of Ubuntu. So, I am running all my tests on the same x86-64 machine and am
