R code to reproduce (while studying) Bates & Watts 1988
Hi R users, I'm here trying to understand correlated residuals in nonlinear estimation. I'm reading/studying the book Bates, D. M. and D. G. Watts, (1988), /Nonlinear regression analysis and its applications/, Wiley, NY. pages 92-94, trying to reproduce the figures and to find out the code in R to perform the necessary calculations. I also consulted Pinheiro and Bates, but without

upsmon and Chloride UPS
Hi, We have 2 UPS Chloride 80 NET 120 ( a black and white one ) in our datacenter. Could you please tell me if it is possible to use upsmon or other free solution with these two UPS for shuting down servers during electrical lost power before battery crash . Adding non-data line to legend ggplot2 Maximum Contaminant Level
Hello everyone, I have a plot showing chloride concentrations for various point over time. I also have a dotted line that show the Secondary Maximum Contaminant Level (my screening limit) on the graphs at 250 mg/L. But I can not figure out how to include the dotted line / Secondary Maximum Contaminant Level in the legend. Any thoughts? My code is as following and is linked to my data on the

Descriptive Stats from Data Frame
I don't find how to do what I need to do in Dalgaard or 'R Cookbook', so I'm asking here. I have a data frame with water chemistry data and I want to start exploring these data. There are three factors (site, date, chemical) associated with each measurement. The data frame looks like this: > summary(chemdata) site_id.sample_date.param.quant

comparison of parameters for nonlinear regression
Hi, I have two series of data set (it's measurment of growth but under two different conditions). To model these data I use the same function which is : formula <- y ~ Asym_inf + Asym_sup * ( (1 / (1 + (n1 * (exp( (tmid1-x) / scal1) )^(1/n1) ) ) ) - (1 / (1 + (n2 * (exp( (tmid2-x) / scal2) )^(1/n2) ) ) ) ) After the estimation of the parameters thanks to "nls", I have 2

Linear Discriminant Analysis error: "Variables appear constant"
Hi R experts, I'm attempting to run Linear Discriminant Analysis using the lda function in the MASS package. I've got around 50 predictor variables and one response variable. My response variable has 5 numeric categories that represent different clusters of fish abundance data (clusters were developed using Bray-Curtis and NMDS), and my predictor variables are environmental variables that

regression summary results pvalues and coefficients into a excel
Hi All, I have run many regression analyses (14000 +) and want to collect the coefficients and pvalues into an excel file. I can get the statements below to work up to step 4. I can printout the regressionresults (sample output below). So my hope is to run something like step 5 and 6 and put the pvalues (and then coefficients) into an excel file. Can anyone suggest what I am doing wrong or a

The three routines in R that calculate the wilcoxon signed-rank test give different p-values.......which is correct?
I have a question concerning the Wilcoxon signed-rank test, and specifically, which R subroutine I should use for my particular dataset. There are three different commands in R (that I'm aware of) that calculate the Wilcoxon signed-rank test; wilcox.test, wilcox.exact, and wilcoxsign_test. When I run the three commands on the same dataset, I get different p-values. I'm hoping that

OT: How many watts do I need?
Hello all, Sorry for the OT thing. I'm helping a friend setting up a new box. It's a Pentium 4 with 430Watt power supply. He wants to plugin his old harddrives and DVD into the new box. The total will be: 3 harddrives, 1 DVD drive, 1 CDRW drive. In the box there are also 2 big fans. Is 430Watt enough? Thank you for your sharing. -- Fajar Priyanto | Reg'd Linux User #327841 |

(Another) Bates fortune?
I vote to 'fortunize' Doug Bates on Hierarchical data sets: which software to use? "The widespread use of spreadsheets or SPSS data sets or SAS data sets which encourage the "single table with a gargantuan number of columns, most of which are missing data in most cases" approach to organization of longitudinal data is regrettable."
