loop in R
Dear all, I need to do a loop in R, but I am not sure the software is generating "n" times the variables I request differently. When I ask to print the last matrix created, I just can see the loop for n=1. To be more precise, supose I need to simulate 10 times one variable and I want to fit the 10 variables simulated in a matrix. I dont really know what I am doing wrong, but I just

Symbolic derivation using D in package stats - how do I properly convert the returned call into a character string?
Dear all, I am using the function 'D' in the 'stats' package to perform symbolic derivation. This works very well and it is much faster than e.g. Mathematica (at least for my purposes). First, I would like to thank the development team for this excellent function. However, I run into trouble in some cases, particularly when I am to do some operations on long expressions

3.3 -> 3.4 transition
maybe some of the 3.4 beta discussion has covered this, i wasn't watching it too closely. what is going to be the process to convert a system from 3.3 to 3.4? will a simple yum update work? or do we have to do something more intentional to make it happen? how does redhat handle u3->u4 updates? i assume that since u4 has been published that security patches from rh will only apply to

creating vector os zeros for simulations (beginner's question)
Dear R helpers,   I know this is a simple task, but I'm new to R and I'm still havind difficulties with the language. I want to create 30 vectors to be used in a simulation, each with 1 columm and 5 lines, of random numbers N(0,1). What I tried was this:   N=150 u2<-rep(1:150,0) u2<-list(matrix(0,5)) u2 for(i in 1:N) { u2[i]<-rnorm(5) } u2 ### also tried this: N=150

CentOS 6.2: Start and use guest as regular user under qemu-kvm?
Trying to set up a copy of CentOS 6.2 for home use and give each family member their own guest. Goal is to cripple the host so that no meaningful work can be done through it and each family member must use their own guest. "Gold Disk" masters would be kept of each guest, so if they screw it up, I can simply overwrite their current guest from the master. SELinux is enabled and sVirt

solving a structural equation model using sem or other package
I am trying to work my way through the book "Singer, JD and Willett, JB, Applied Longitudinal Data Analysis. Oxford University Press, 2003" using R. I have the SAS code and S-Plus code from the UCLA site (doesn't include chapter 8 or later problems). In chapter 8, there is a structural equation/path model which can be specified for the sem package as follows S <- cov(al2)

Simalteneous Equation Doubt in R
Hi List l am interested in developing price model. I have found a research paper related to price model of corn in US market where it has taken demand & supply forces into consideration. Following are the equation: Supply equation: St= a0+a1Pt-1+a2Rt-1+a3St-1+a5D1+a6D2+a7D3+U1 -(1) Where D1,D2,D3=Quarterly Dummy Variables(Since quarterly data are considered) Here, Supply

Bug in rsync? (--delete[-after])
Hello! I think I've found a bug in some (older) versions of rsync. The problem does not seem to have been reported at bugzilla. And of the 9 bugs found there by searching on "--delete-after" all have got the name wayned@samba.org attached. I ask you therefore to check if this problem is found in the newest version of rsync as well! I've read the warnings at rsync.samba.org

ZFS speed degraded in S10U4 ?
Hi Guys, I''m playing with Blade 6300 to check performance of compressed ZFS with Oracle database. After some really simple tests I noticed that default (well, not really default, some patches applied, but definitely noone bother to tweak disk subsystem or something else) installation of S10U3 is actually faster than S10U4, and a lot faster. Actually it''s even faster on

fixed trimmed mean for j-group
Hello...i want to find the empirical rate for type 1 error using fixed trimmed mean. To make it easy, i'm referring to journal given by this website http://www.academicjournals.org/ajmcsr/PDF/pdf2011/Yusof%20et%20al.pdf. I already run the programme and there is no error in it but i got zero for the empirical rate of type 1 error. The empirical rate for the type 1 error given in the journal

[LLVMdev] Speculative phi elimination at the top of a loop?
I am working on heavily optimising unusually static C++ code, and have encountered a situation where I basically want an optimiser that would speculatively unroll a loop to see if the first round of the loop could be optimised further. (I happen to know that it is possible.) The previous optimisations that produce the loop in the first place already do a magical job (relying heavily on constant

fixed trimmed mean for group
Hello, I haven't found errors in your code. I implemented the test in the paper (the first, fixed symetric mean) and it also gives me zero Type I errors, when alpha = 0.05. Try to see the value of min(pv) or to plot the histogram of 'pv', hist(pv) and you'll see that there are no significant p-values, at that level. Anyway I'll continue to look at it, but my first
