generic database access methods
I've been putting together a package that defined generic methods for database access. The packages is called "Rdbi." It borrows as much as possible from existing database packages / proposals. I'd like to start a discussion about the proposed interface. Here's what I've come up with so far: # # Rdbi: connectionMethods.R # dbConnect <- function(dbObj, ...)

run time function for R scripts?
Hi All, I was wondering if there was a function in R that would output the total run time for various scripts. For now I have the following workaround: begTime <- Sys.time() ... the rest of the R script... runTime <- Sys.time()-begTime Is there another function that I don't know about that would return this information in a more elegant manner? Thanks! [[alternative HTML

Problem with seq.dates in chron
I get faulty output from seq.dates() if I specify a length that is too long. For example, I ask for 129 months in the following call to the function, but it returns 131: > R.version.string [1] "R version 1.9.1, 2004-06-21" > startdatetime <- chron(dates="01/01/1995", times="00:00:00") > beg.month.datetimes <- seq.dates(from=startdatetime,

RMySQL performance over RODBC
R-help list, I ported some R code from MS Windows PC to sun-solaris. Both do queries on the same MySQL database. PC version of R is 1.6.1 and solaris version is 1.6.0. I use RMySQL_0.5-0 (on solaris) and RODBC 1.0-1 on PC to connect to MySQL. The PC version took about 65 mins. to run wheras the Solaris (SunOS 5.7) version took 375 mins. (> 6 hrs). R and RMySQL are resident on the same host

RMySQL CREATE TABLE error
Hi all- I am stumped. The code in A. returns errors at lines 14 and 15 and fails to load series1 and series2. However, in B., if temp1 and temp2 are called again (which returns a "Table exists" error; see lines 14-17 in B.) series1 and series2 load correctly. Any ideas? Also-I am open to any suggestions to improve the code as I am a horrific programmer. Thanks A. 1 >

RMySQL load error
I'm having trouble getting RMySQL to load. I was able to build it and install it (RMySQL_0.5-11.tar.gz). I was also able to build and install mysql-5.0.37. I've read many postings about this but have not found a mention of my particular problem (some closely related). I get the "unable to load shared library, no such file" error, but all the files do exist, RMySQL.so and

RMySQL installed but not availalable
I don't use MySQL but I have seen messages like this before. They often have replies which indicate that you need to follow the instructions more closely. I suggest you search the list for these previous posts as I'm sure there is help there, somewhere! ggplot2: line plot with gaps in time axis
Hello, I'm trying to plot data that has gaps in the timeline because my data only has the business day in it. When I do a line plot I get the data and then a blank area where a line goes the tail of the last data point to the head of the next data point. Is there a way I can do a line plot where the gaps are not plotted? Thanks in advance, Brian > names(utildf) [1]

is there something like or() ?
hi, this may be trivial, but we can't seem to find anything adequate, (although there is a work around with match() ). We are looking for something along the lines of plot(table1[table1$var2==or("a","b","c","d"),"var1"]) would be handy, with the potential or() function leading to what plot(table1[table1$var2=="a" |

Serialize data.frame to database
Dear R-Users, I need a very fast and reliable database solution so I try to serialize a data.frame (to binary data) and to store this data to an SQLite database. This is what I tried to do: library(RSQLite) con <- dbDriver("SQLite") db <- dbConnect(con, "test") dbSendQuery(db, 'CREATE TABLE frames("simID" INT, "data" BLOB)') data.bin <-

How does this function print, why is n1 which equals 1 printed as 2?
Windows 7, R 2.12.1 Colleagues, I am trying to understand the n.for.2means function. The code below is a copy of the function (renamed to n.for.2means.js). I have inserted a single line of code towards the bottom of the function which uses the cat function to print the value of n1. You will note the value (preceded by stars) is printed as 1. The function (1) prints a lot of output without any

Hi, I've run into a bit of a problem with using the RMySQL library. I've been attempting to create a temporary table in a MySQL database and then perform a SELECT with a WHEREs clause on the table. In effect perform a SELECT with a subSELECT. The problem is that it never seems to be able to find the table after I create it. I've been using the dbSendQuery method to create the table
