Problems with 'valid columns' when using merge
Dear all,
I am trying to use 'merge' within a loop, however, I receive an error relating to the 'by' argument of the command, as follows:
> merge_year <- 1986
>
> for (i in 1:10) { # Number of file pairs
+ assign(paste("merged_arunfek_", merge_year, sep=""), merge(x=paste("arunoff_",start_arunoff, sep=""),

reshaping pairs of columns
Given a data frame consisting of a pointID and 12 pairs of (lat, long)
variables, with names
latA, longA, latB, longB, ... latL, longL, I want to reshape it into a
data frame with the structure
point source lat long
1 A ... ...
1 B ... ...
I've looked at reshape and plyr, but can't figure out how to do this.
Details of my data frame are below

Melt (reshape) question
Dear all,
I
have a grid of 720 columns by 360 rows of global population density
values, and hope to convert this to column format using the 'melt' command in the 'reshape' package. I'm not receiving
any errors as such, but when the code has finished running, my output
looks like this:
> head(PopDens.long)

X and Y axis labels on a barplot
Dear all,
I have produced a barplot and wish to alter the axes a little. In place of the variable names appearing on the x-axis, I'd like to have the numbers 1986 to 1995. I have tried using the argument xlim=c(1986,1995) in the barplot command but receive: "Error in plot.window(xlim, ylim, log = log, ...) : invalid 'xlim' value"
Also, on the y-axis, the values are

Reshape - strange outputs
Dear R Users,
I am using the reshape package to reformat gridded data into column format using the code shown below. However, when I display the resulting object, a single column is fomed (instead of three) and all the latitude values (which should be in either column one or two) are collected at the bottom. Also, the NA values aren't removed, despite this being requested in the code.

Tukey post hoc comparison (glht?) after 3factorial mixed model (lmer)
Hello, dear R-community.
This is a question about TukeyHSD between factor combinations of a Three-Way
ANOVA, which is - since it is a multi measure ANOVA - not a simple ANOVA but
a Generalised Linear Mixed Model (GLMM), calculated with "lmer".

aggrete data from combination
Dear R users,
A have a dataframe (matrix) with two collumns (plot, and diameter (d)). I
want all diameters values for different combination of plots.
For example I want all d values for all posible combination, 100C2 (all d
values for plot 1 with all d values in the plot 2.......with all d values
from plot 1 with all d values from plot 100, ...... with all d values from
plot 99 with all d values

aggregate combination data
Hello,
I'm cc'ing R-Help.
Sorry but your question was asked 3.5 years ago, I really don't
remember it. Can you please post a question to R-Help, with a
reproducible example that describes your problem?

I want to aggregate all *d *data from all combination of n *plots* taken

Thank very much!

NLS -- multiplicative errors and group comparison
Hello,
I am attempting to fit a non-linear model (Von Bertalanffy growth model)
to fish length-at-age data with the purpose of determining if any of the
three parameters differ between male and female fish. I believe that I
can successfully accomplish this goal assuming an additive error
structure (illustrated in section 1 below). My trouble begins when I
attempt this analysis using a model

regression? no more separate xscreens
Dear Devs,
The support for multiple xscreens (i.e. no xinerama, just separate :0.0
and :0.1 displays) in nouveau is broken.
It would be great if someone could confirm this. It is easily done, by
commenting the "xinerama" option from the xorg.conf file:
https://nouveau.freedesktop.org/wiki/MultiMonitorDesktop/
With the nvidia proprietary drivers separate xscreens work fine. Could

hang when starting X
Hi. I've been testing Fedora rawhide, since Fedora 9 will be coming out
soon. I tried running nouveau, and had a hang, so I thought I'd report
it here. I'm not sure whether or not this is helpful, but I figured it
can't hurt.
Anyway, when X started, it got far enough that the X cursor showed up in
the middle of the screen, but I was unable to get the cursor to move.
As far as I
