R-squared value for linear regression passing through origin using lm()
Hi,
A have small technical question about the calculation of R-squared
using lm().
In a study case with experimental values, it seems more logical to
force the regression line to pass through origin with lm(y ~ x +0).
However, R-squared values are higher in this case than when I
compute the linear regression with lm(y ~ x).
It seems to be surprising to me: is this result normal ? Is there

Fit sem model with intercept
Hi - I am trying to fit sem model with intercepts. Here is what I have in my model.
Exogeneous vars: x1 (continous), x2 (ordinal), x3 (ordinal), x4(continuous)
Endogeneous vars: y1 (continuous), y2 (ordinal), y3 (ordinal)
SEM model:

HELP with NLME
Hi,
I was very much hoping someone could help me with the following.
I am trying to convert some SAS NLMIXED code to NLME in R (v.2.1),
but I get an error message. Does anyone have any suggestions?
I think my error is with the random effect "u" which seems to be
parametrized differently in the SAS code. In case it's helpful,

Request for Assistance in R with NonMem
Hi
I am having some problems running a covariate analysis with my
colleage using R with the NonMem program we are using for a graduate
school project. R and NonMem run fine without adding in the
covariates, but the program is giving us a problem when the covariate
analysis is added. We think the problem is with the R code to run the

Structural Equation Model
Hello all!
I want to estimate parameters in a MIMIC model. I have one latent
variable (ksi), four reflexive indicators (y1, y2, y3 and y4) and four
formative indicators (x1, x2, x3, x4). Is there a way to do it in R? I
know there is the SEM library, but it seems not to be possible to
specify formative indicators, that is, observed exogenous variables
which causes the latent variable.

I am running 1.3.1 on a Windows (NT 4.0) machine. I've fit a nonlinear
model intended to predict crop yield from nutrient information, and want to
use the profile function. If I type say,

Post-hoc test for Kruskal-Wallis
Hi there,
I've got a small question :
is there any post-hoc test for Kruskal rank sum test integrated in R ?
I know that the Nemenyi test is one of the post-hoc that can be used,
but there's no (to by knowledge) R function for it.
What should I do ?

Non linear fitting of 2 distributions with shared parameters
Hi,
I need to compare non-linear fittings of 2 different experimental
distributions. I use nls() to the fit the 2 distribution and it works
pretty well.
The statistical comparison of 2 non linear fits is well described in
the book "Fitting Models to Biological Data using Linear and Nonlinear
Regression" from Harvey Motulsky and Arthur Christopoulos.

General expression of a unitary matrix

Does anybody got the most general expression of a unitary matrix?
I found one in the book, four entries of the matrix are:
(cos\theta) exp(j\alpha); -(sin\theta)exp(j(\alpha-\Omega));
(sin\theta)exp(j(\beta+\Omega)); (cos\theta) exp(j\beta);
where "j" is for complex.
However, since for any two unitary matrices, their product should also

Let say I have a sets of numbers:
rno1 = rnorm(1000)
rno2 = rnorm(1000)
If I write request as follow:
sm.density.compare (rno, rno3, xfit=min(rno), max(rno2))
why I receive a lot of curves in my plot, while I have only two data sets?

slope in curves - how to compare?
Hello,
Is there any formula or way to compare slopes of different functions?
If we fit 2 functions in our data, and we have 2 slope parameters, how can we compare these slopes? Plotting y=5x and y=exp(5x) in which slope is equal to 5 in both of them.. doesn't seem that it makes sense to compare them. Maybe what I ask is basic statistics.. but you may be aware of some formula that could
