reading BMP or TIFF files
I realize that this question has been asked before (2003);

but I am hoping that the answer has changed. Namely, I would
rather read the BMP (or TIFF) files directly instead of putting

Timing issue using locator() in loop containing print()
I am attempting to use locator(n=2) to select the corners of several (5 in
this case) rectangles on an image displayed in a JavaGD window. The returned
coords are used to draw labeled rectangles around the selected region. I
have tried several things to get this to work including sys.Sleep to correct
what appears to be a timing issue with this loop. The first-time print in

JGR GUI for R-2.10.0 "Help" "Print"
I have updated R 2.9.1 to 2.10.0. and JGR GUI 1.7. I am running Windows XP.
I can't seem to get the JGR "Print" or "Help" functions to work. The system
locks and requires me to "stop the process".
In the past I have preferred the opreation and "feel" of JGR GUI. I realize
that this help forum is for R; but, I am hoping that some other R-user is

rimage package broken with fedora upgrade
Dear R list members
I would be grateful if anyone could guide me to a solution for fixing my
rimage package problem described below.
I recently upgraded my machine from fedora core 3 to fedora core 6 and
then upgraded R from version 2.3.1 from version 2.4.1.
I then fired up R, tried to load the rimage library and received the
following messages:

rimage doesn't install on Mac OS X 10.4
Hi,
I'm trying to install rimage on a Mac OS X 10.4 machine. I followed the
advice in previous R-help threads and got over the hurdles of having the
header files in the right places, among other things. But I can't
figure out what to do with this error.

write in rimage package
Is there any way to write an imagematrix generated by the rimage package?
Reproducible example:
library(rimage)
x <- read.jpeg(system.file("data", "cat.jpg", package="rimage"))
png("newcat.png")
plot(x)
dev.off()
The newcat.png image is different from the original file, because
there are ugly white borders around it.

display SVG, PNG, GIF, JPEG, TIFF, PPM in new plot frame
Dear R-help
I want to display an image file in a new plot frame.
SVG is my preferred format, but I can also consider
PNG, GIF, JPEG, TIFF, and PPM (from ImageMagick).
By way of background (although not material to this
posting), the image file is generated by a call to
'dot' (part of the 'Graphviz' suite) after the required
.dot file has been produced using hand-crafted R code.

reading jpeg images?
Can someone advise me what the most sensible way is to read jpeg images?
For our work with image analysis and eye-tracking we have been using the
rimage package, on both Macs and Windows PCs. But while setting up a new
Windows machine yesterday, I see that rimage is regarded as orphaned, and no
Windows binary is available. I eventually found an old zip file for the
package, so I

read.*: How to read from a URL?
The question is how to use a URL in place of a file= argument for
read.*.functions that do
not support this internally.
e.g., utils::read.table() and her family all support a file= argument
that can take a URL
equally well as a local file. So, if I have a file on the web, I can
equally well do
