graphs superimposed on pictures?
Hi: I am doing some work that involves plotting points of interest superimposed on photographs and maps. I can produce the plots fine in R, but so far I have had to do the superimposition externally, which makes it tedious to do exploratory work. I have looked to see if there is some capability to put a background picture on a plot window, but I have not found anything. Advice, anyone? Cheers

linking with libFLAC on Mac OS X
Hi everyone. I'm working on a FLAC plugin for the Java Media Framework (JMF) on Mac OS X. I'm having some trouble linking to libFLAC... When I first try to link to it, it tells me the libFLAC.a TOC is out of date, so run ranlib. So then I run ranlib, and it seems to be okay, except I then get undefined symbol errors: % cc -bundle

hello and question on Mac OS X Server use of Samba
Hi, I'm new to the list (and samba). It's a great technology and I look forward to learning more about it. I have an OS X Server that utilizes the built-in Samba to allow for Windows client connectivity. The OSXS gets the majority of its users from an LDAP server elsewhere on the campus. On OSXS, it's expected that the Windows users will be local or that the server will be a

Re: Mac OS X 10.5 compatibility?
I'm trying to build a custom engine under Winery 1.3 on OSX 10.5 and I'm getting the same error that doh123 reported originally. Doh123, I noticed you released WS8Wine-1.3.33 which works on OSX 10.5. How did you get this to compile? Did you compile on 10.5? I can compile 1.3.33 using Winery 1.3 on 10.6, but it crashes when used on 10.5. We're working with a custom build of the wine

R_alloc problem on Mac OSX (PR#8683)
Full_Name: Dan Kelley Version: 2.2.1 OS: Mac OSX Submission from: (NULL) (129.173.23.36) I'm having difficulties getting R_alloc() to work on a 64-bit Mac running R 2.2.1 installed via a .dmg file obtained from the R site. Details are given below, in a level of detail that I hope is appropriate. My eye was particularly drawn to line #2 in the gdb 'where' output, but line #1 seems

File growth behavior of Mac OS X and WinXP
Hello List, I've searched the internet and I haven't been able to figure this out. I hope someone here can point me in the right direction. I have a MacOSX 10.3 machine and a WinXP machine that are being used to produce large video clips (@1gig). After they are rendered and ready for playback, they are copied to the playout machines using a system that uses watch folders shared out over

Passed all tests with flying colors on Mac OS X 10.4.11 - synopsis of installation and testing
Awesome work Wayne. I have been following the various threads about running rsync 3.0.0 on MacOS X 10.4.11 and wanted to confirm that following all the various bits of advice yields a clean running rsync (as tested by backup bouncer). I am running MacOS X 10.4.11 on PPC. The following is a synopsis of my installation procedure (as gathered from the various emails in the archive) - note

How to detect if R is running on Mac OS X?
This question is probably trivial, but I don't find the answer. I have code that is different for Windows, Unix/Linux and Mac OSX. The man page of .Platform tells that .Platform$OS.type is the right way to test for it... but it also tels that it returns either "windows" or "unix". Is Mac OS X reported as "unix"? If yes, how do I make the difference? Thanks,

You may want to try just setting your CXXFLAGS to "-arch i386 -arch ppc -arch

Mac OS X installer: missing files fix
I've paraphrased the OS X installer developer's comments: there's a bug in Installer that is preventing the archive from working right. Below is the fix for the problem. First (obviously) run the installer. Since the executables are in the archive.pax.gz file in the installer package, first do a "show package contents" on the package file, then unstuff the enclosed

Recommended method of running puppet periodically on mac os x
Hi, I tried asking this question on ask.puppetlabs.com, but haven''t got any responses yet: https://ask.puppetlabs.com/question/1975/recommended-method-of-running-puppet-periodically-on-mac-os-x/ Is there some source of puppet & mac os x knowledge that I''m unaware of? I was kind of hoping that the ''osx'' tag on ask.puppetlabs.com would become that.
