I just compiled and packaged Universal Binaries of Ruby 1.8.5
It''s available at:
ftp://ftp.math.ohio-state.edu/osx/pkgs/unix/Ruby-1.8.5-1-ub.mpkg.dmg
This distribution mpkg contains:
GNU Readline 5.1 (Universal Binary)
Ruby 1.8.5 (Universal Binary)
Ruby Gems 0.9.0 (Universal Binary)
Each component was compiled with --prefix=/usr/local, the packages
installs into /usr/local
If you''d like to install the components discretely:
ftp://ftp.math.ohio-state.edu/osx/pkgs/unix/readline-5.1.0-2-ub.pkg.dmg
ftp://ftp.math.ohio-state.edu/osx/pkgs/unix/ruby-1.8.5-1-ub.pkg.dmg
ftp://ftp.math.ohio-state.edu/osx/pkgs/unix/rubygems-0.9.0-1-ub.pkg.dmg
The packages do not update your PATH variable, so you''ll need to
manually add /usr/local/bin to your PATH.
export PATH="/usr/local/bin:$PATH"
Make PATH changes permanent by editing ~/.bashrc or /etc/bashrc to
include the above line and restart your shells.
WARNING: I''m not sure if these packages will conflict or break when
installed over top of the existing RubyUniversal 1.8.4 package from
http://www.infurious.com/downloads/ which you may have already installed.
Please provide feedback. I haven''t done much testing on these
packages,
but I''ve ensured this doesn''t wipe the hard disk or anything
stupid like
that. Permissions should be sane, and nothing should be installed
world-writable.
