For Loop - loading 10 sets of data and calculating
I am trying to simplify my code by adding a for loop that will load and
compute a sequence of code 10 time. They way i run it now is that the same
8 lines of code are basically reproduced 10 times. I would like to replace
the numeric value in the code (e.g. Bin1, Bin2....Bin10) each time the loop
goes around. Below i tried doing this with a simple for loop and adding the
string character before

Calling object outside function
What i thought was a simple process isnt working for me. After i create an
multiple objects in a function (see below), how to i use those objects later
in the program. I tried calling the function again and then the object i
wanted and it worked the first time but now it doesnt( i think i defined the
object outside the function accidently so then it worked but when run
properly it doesnt). I

conditional loop
I am looking up a number based upon a randomly selected number and then
proceed to the rest of my code if the corresponding value is greater than or
equal to yet another value.
so if
Dev_Size = 14
and my randomly selected number is 102
and i am looking up 102 in the following table
100 21
101 4
102 9
103 52
104 29
So i select the the corresponding value of 102, which is 9 and

improving/speeding up a very large, slow simulation
Dear R help;
I'll preface this by saying that the example I've provided below is pretty
long, turgid, and otherwise a deep dive into a series of functions I wrote
for a simulation study. It is, however, reproducible and self-contained.
I'm trying to do my first simulation study that's quite big, and so I'll
say that the output of this simulation as I'd like it to be is

Fitting a cumulative gaussian
Dear R-Experts,
I was wondering how to fit a cumulative gaussian to a set of empirical
data using R. On the R website as well as in the mail archives, I found
a lot of help on how to fit a normal density function to empirical data,
but unfortunately no advice on how to obtain reasonable estimates of m
and sd for a gaussian ogive function.
Specifically, I have data from a psychometric function

Summing identical IDs
Hello All,
I would like to select records with identical IDs then sum an attribute
then and return them to the data frame as a single record. Please consider
Acres<-c(100,101,100,130,156,.5,293,300,.09)
Bldgid<-c(1,2,3,4,5,5,6,7,7)
DF=cbind(Acres,Bldgid)
DF<-as.data.frame(DF)
So that:
Acres Bldgid
1 100.00 1
2 101.00 2
3 100.00 3
4 130.00 4
5 156.00 5

Package ismev, gpd.fit, and interpretation for statistics of extreme values
Dear All,
I have a question about package "ismev", its function "gpd.fit", and
interpretation of the results.
I used the package ismev to do an extreme value analysis on a fire
dataset. Two variables are used in the analysis. The focal variable is
acreage burned per fire, ranging from 1 to 5000 acres per fire. In
total, there are 69,980 observations. The date covers

summary table newbie question
I've got a newbie question and I got a little lost in the "table helps".
I've got a data.frame I would like to summarize as a (and pardon for the
lack of correct vernacular) data collection matrix. My data looks like,

RHEL 6 Optional channel
It looks like all of our RHEL 6 systems now need to connect to the RHN
Optional Channel. (puppet, ruby vs. selinux deps)
Is there a way to do that with a script without having to enter RHN userid
and password? Is there a way to add a channel during kickstart?
Thanks

data is getting corrupted
I've been attempting to perform some analysis on a model that was
interfaced with R (R calls a library that takes SEXPs and converts the
data frames into the internal structures of data), and I notice that for
small data.frames the vectors don't get corrupt (n<200-ish). When I pass
in larger data.frames, the vectors will become corrupt. I've been

How to check if a package exists
Dear all,
I''m trying to do this. Say for example, I want this link: "liblcgdm.so
-> liblcgdm.so.1.8.0" to be present on the client only if "lcgdm-
libs-1.8.0-1sec.sl5" is already listed. I already have this to create
the link:
file {
''liblcgdm.so'':
ensure => symlink,
name => ''/opt/lcg/lib/liblcgdm.so'',

Question on clicking
This isn't an asterisk question, more of a telco question. Hopefully
someone on this list involved with telco can answer it.
I have a client who is using asterisk with analog phone lines. There
is a bad clicking noise on the line. "Click.... Click.... Click".
We have narrowed it down to being the farmer's fencer next door. (And
by next door I mean 2 acres away).

Script consumes memory
I have the following script that when executed, consumes memory and
makes the system inaccessible. All process are halted.
First, I don't understand what is wrong with the script
Secondly, I'm surprised that Linux allows this to run unchecked to the
detriment of the entire system.

MS Exchange to CentOs (multiuser)
Is there a way to get mail from a MS Exchange server that is addressed
as user at host.domain.com rather than the user at domain.com so that users on
host.domain.com can read their mail on that host (CentOS). (I'm
assuming that Exchange needs to know about host.domain.com, somehow.)

I am using fitdistr function for parameter estimation.

Removing old kernels
I have the following kernels on my /boot:
2.6.18-128.1.6
2.6.18-92.1.18
2.6.18-92.1.22
I'm low on /boot space and need to remove the oldest version. It
appears that I cannot use yum to remove since all of the versions are
the same (only the release is different). I believe that I can use rpm
to remove the old version, but I also need to remove them from the

Busy Lamp Field SIP Phone
Does anyone have a recommendation for a good SIP phone with a busy lamp
field? I need my operator to be able to see extension status for about
20 extensions and transfer via HOLD + extension button. I've got a pair
of SNOM 360s with the sidecar, but I'm very disappointed with them. The
buttons are cheap and rubbery like a Sipura 841, the handset cord is
short and cheap, the audio quality
