Odd indexing issue
Hey Dave, I just contributed $100 to the ferret donation box. My project is earning no money yet (but hopefully will), for now I hope this helps you out and covers me for asking stupid questions ;). To get a distance sorted output, I am passing an array of the id field from a ferret search through to mysql in a custom select statement. SELECT ... id IN (#{ids.join(",")}) This has

cFerret ETA?
I''m noticing some long delays when optimizing my index. I know this is terribly inefficient, but in order to make sure that my ActiveRecord model is in sync with my index, I''m optimizing after every new record that I store, like so: class Resume < ActiveRecord::Base include Ferret has_and_belongs_to_many :users SEARCH_INDEX = File.dirname(__FILE__) +

Several questions about Ferret.
Hi. First of all I would like to say "thank you" to David for its really valuable work. Ferret is a great project and it have great future. Well now is my questions as beginner in Ferret. How to remove ALL documents from index. Remove files is not a solution. I am interesting in something like index.remove_index or something like this. What is a usual way of doing it?? What is the

concurrency / #search_each problem / segfault
Hello everyone, I was stress-testing my application (running on Rails via FastCGI) by letting two concurrent users (not human .. an app called ''siege'') a) save an Article and b) search for all Articles. I am searching via Article.ferret_index.search_each( ..) do |doc_id,score| doc = index[doc_id] .. end and writing via Article.ferret_index <<

Index::Index.new vs. Readers and Writers
Hey gang, A post on the Rails forum a while back had it sound like you pretty much had to use the Index Readers & Writers if you were going to be potentially accessing an index from more than one process. (i.e. multiple dispatch.fcgi''s, etc) Is this still the case, or does the main Index class do that black magic behind the scenes? =) I was having trouble implementing the

Missing fields in search result
Hello ferret users, I have a problem with ferret dropping stored fields in the index. Not all fields I want to store get stored, so they can be searched, but can''t be retrieved in a search. Index creation: INDEX = Index::Index.new(:path => ''/home/gregor/wisa/index'', :analyzer => Analysis::WhiteSpaceAnalyzer.new) SR =

Here is some code I am trying to use it in... search = Search.create(:query => query) @quotations = [] searcher = Ferret::Search::Searcher.new("index") # FerretConfig::INDEX bq =

Get number of found documents
Hi David again. I would say that Ferret works great with Rails. And now I am trying to create pagination. Because site could have millions of documents I need to create on page link something like "Page #100". Rather usual situation. But to create this links I need to know how many documents Ferret found in index. For now I am doing it with following code index =

Confusing lock problem in rails
I have a model class in rails that has a class variable that is a ferret index. For some reason, the methods in my class that refer to the class variable are getting lock conflicts. Can anybody see any obvious reason why? I notice that it keeps leaving a lock file in the index directory. I thought auto_flush was supposed to remove the lock automatically after every operation. Is there

Hi folks, I''ve working and playing with acts_as_ferret and follow this fantastic tutorial: http://www.railsenvy.com/2007/2/19/acts-as-ferret-tutorial When I try to implement the field storage tip, it crash. Ferret - sorting results by score
I am trying to figure out how to sort my results by the score Ferret is returning. From the results of a search, I use the ids to then look up their corresponding records in the database. The reason for this is that the database records contain more information than I am storing in the index. Any ideas? Code example below. Thanks in advance! def index if (params[:q])

Adding entry breaks index
Our ferret 0.10.13 index has been slowly growing on our debian server and has just got up over 14,000 records. Yesterday I randomly noticed that one search I did was suddenly giving whack, unexpected results. I have spent much time trying to track the problem. Tried ferret 0.10.9 - no change. Tried on a windows machine - where it works fine, and doesn''t give weird results (which just

ANN: acts_as_ferret
Hi all This week I have worked with Rails and Ferret to test Ferrets (and Lucenes) capabilities. I decided to make a mixin for ActiveRecord as it seemed the simplest possible solution and I ended up making this into a plugin. For more info on Ferret see: http://ferret.davebalmain.com/trac/ The plugin is functional but could easily be refined. Anyway I want to share it with you. Regard it as a
