Hi Tom and folks, Mandriva is shipping shorewall in its main distribution for some time now. It is built on a custom .spec, but I keep it in sync with latest versions of shorewall package. I heard that there were some issues with Mandriva''s package of shorewall, but it was before I started working on it, and the guys that were maintaining it before are no longer working on it. I''d like to ask you if there is anything regarding to Mandriva''s packages that is still missing or incorrect - and, if we could fix it, maybe it would be interesting to mention that shorewall is included in all versions of Mandriva on the download page of shorewall? My system does live in cooker distro and thus I''m aware of most significant changes which concern the distro and shorewall as well, and that happened only once when shorewall didn''t work. That issue has been fixed and rather was related to kernel and iptables. I maintain all settings and rules manually and will suggest to not use Drake''s wizards to avoid problem iptables 1.4.4, shorewall 4.4.0, kernel 2.6.30.2-desktop-1mnb (also no problems with 2.6.31.rcX) thx ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Let Crystal Reports handle the reporting - Free Crystal Reports 2008 30-Day trial. As for mandriva wizards (e.g., drakfirewall and drakgw) - in my opinion, a such as sensitive area like firewall configuration cannot be fully handled by a wizard application. One should be able to configure all the features itself to have full control over it. Mandriva tools attempt at simplifying the most common tasks, and giving the user a base on which he could base his own configuration. But in any case, you have the option of using those wizards to configure some common options in a quick way, or just skip using them altogether if you want to configure the firewall yourself. -- Eugeni Dodonov ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Let Crystal Reports handle the reporting - Free Crystal Reports 2008 30-Day trial.
