Shorewall users - Mar 2006 - request for legal permission to use shorewall sample config files

I would like to ask for legal permission to use
the shorewall one-interface sample files.  could
the author please respond to me directly so I can
send a formal request (yes, my legal department
was involved, but the request is short).

I don''t know if Tom will sign any legal form though.. ( very unlikely I
think).

himself.

all I have is a small amount of text that explains what I want to do
and then asks permission.  there is no legal boilerplate and it was
written by me, a software guy, not by a legal department.  yes/no in
email is all I need, not anything fancy.

There might be a problem here: Tom is not the only author.  A number of
people have contributed to the samples over the years.

Tom, perhaps we should release the samples under an explicit license
like the LGPL, FDL, or Creative Commons BY-SA.

Good idea Paul about an explicit license. Your point about authorship is a 
valid one -- I probably have less content in the current samples than you do 
and I certainly have much less that Francesca Smith does.

Would you be willing to follow through on this issue?

Hi David,

We''ve just had a quick discussion and added explicit licensing to the
Samples.  If you retrieve the latest Samples from
http://svn.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.cgi/shorewall/trunk/Samples/ you''ll
find explicit permission to copy them in each file.  This should keep
your lawyers happy.  :-)
