I would like to ask for legal permission to use the shorewall one-interface sample files. could the author please respond to me directly so I can send a formal request (yes, my legal department was involved, but the request is short). thx dxc ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email is sponsored by xPML, a groundbreaking scripting language that extends applications into web and mobile media. I don''t know if Tom will sign any legal form though.. ( very unlikely I think).

RE: request for legal permission to use shorewall sample config files
thanks, but I would prefer it if he would say "yes" or "no" himself. all I have is a small amount of text that explains what I want to do and then asks permission. there is no legal boilerplate and it was written by me, a software guy, not by a legal department. yes/no in email is all I need, not anything fancy. thx dxc -----Original Message----- From: shorewall-users-admin@lists.sourceforge.net [mailto:shorewall-users-admin@lists.sourceforge.net] On Behalf Of Cristian Rodriguez Sent: Thursday, March 16, 2006 2:33 PM To: shorewall-users@lists.sourceforge.net Subject: Re: [Shorewall-users] request for legal permission to use shorewall sample config files Callaway, David X escribió:> I would like to ask for legal permission to use > the shorewall one-interface sample files. could > the author please respond to me directly so I can > send a formal request (yes, my legal department > was involved, but the request is short). > > thx > dxc >You are legally permitted to use the samples. are covered by the same Shorewall license. A number of people have contributed to the samples over the years. Tom, perhaps we should release the samples under an explicit license like the LGPL, FDL, or Creative Commons BY-SA. Your point about authorship is a valid one -- I probably have less content in the current samples than you do and I certainly have much less that Francesca Smith does. Would you be willing to follow through on this issue? If you retrieve the latest Samples from http://svn.sourceforge.net/viewcvs.cgi/shorewall/trunk/Samples/ you''ll find explicit permission to copy them in each file. This should keep your lawyers happy. :-) Regards, Paul ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email is sponsored by xPML, a groundbreaking scripting language that extends applications into web and mobile media.
