I have a UML VPS (linode.com) with Ubuntu 6.04 ("Dapper"), 2.6 kernel,
and
Shorewall 3.0.4. I am accustomed to using Shorewall on real (physical) PCs
running Debian, and have always successfully used the modification to
/etc/init.d/klogd outlined in FAQ #16 to suppress log messages on the
console. Since Ubuntu is derived from Debian, I assumed this would work
there as well, but that does not seem to be the case. If there are any
Shorewall users who are familiar with Ubuntu and could explain how to
suppress log messages on the console, I would be grateful. If this is a
general issue with Ubuntu, and not just unique to my circumstance, it would
also be great if someone would update FAQ #16, since it seems that Ubuntu
is rapidly growing in popularity.
Thanks,
Jeff Harp
