As some of you may have noticed, Tom Eastep has recently reappeared on the shorewall-users mailing list. Tom has requested that i clarify for everyone his involvement in Shorewall. In the time since Tom announced his departure, the Shorewall team has worked closely with him in trying to reduce his involvement. We''ve managed to do this in a few cases, such as moving Shorewall''s mailing lists and CVS repository to SourceForge.net, but Shorewall seems to keep calling to Tom, and he seems to keep answering. :-) Tom has remained active in development of new features and bug fixes, but is not able to take the same load with respect to documentation and support. In particular, even though he is back, please don''t ask Tom directly for help with your Shorewall problem, whether by email, instant messaging, or any other avenue. Remember that there are thousands of Shorewall users, but there is only one Tom. Asking him to get personally involved in your particular problem is asking too much. Please use the shorewall-users mailing list or the #shorewall IRC channel instead. Tom''s statement when he left was that since starting Shorewall, he''s come to dislike his life. I hope that''s no longer the case, and i hope that we can prevent it from happening again. To achieve this, your help is needed! There are plenty of jobs for people who can only contribute a few minutes each day. The development team is presently discussing how we can provide the infrastructure for coordinating these small jobs. Please take a moment to meet the other members of the Shorewall team at http://devel.shorewall.net/team/members There are also a number of polls we''d like your input on at http://devel.shorewall.net/poll If you would like to help, please sign up for the development mailing list at http://sourceforge.net/mail/?group_id=22587 Thanks for listening, and enjoy using Shorewall! -- Paul <http://paulgear.webhop.net> -- Did you know? I know there are supposed to be NO questions directly to Tom, but I am curious about 2 things. 1. Are you doing better? (I assume so given your continued involvement.) 2. Did you get any good beer? Sorry, but only Tom can truly answer these questions... or maybe his wife. Cheers, Matthew --- Matthew E. Either the original one or a "duplicate" -- depends on when the delivery company admits they lost it and compensates... karsten ------------------------------------------------------- SF.Net email is Sponsored by the Better Software Conference & EXPO September 19-22, 2005 * San Francisco, CA * Development Lifecycle Practices Agile & Plan-Driven Development * Managing Projects & Teams * Testing & QA Security * Process Improvement & Measurement * http://www.sqe.com/bsce5sf
