Ok.
That''s probably really confusing. :)
Here''s what I''d like to do.
If it''s something that''s overly difficult or just plain
stupid, let me
know. :)
I''m on cable with a dynamic IP.
I have a domain forwarding account pointing to me.
That is techiem2.no-ip.com.
The firewall is 192.168.100.1.
My web server is on port 444 on machine 192.168.100.10
The DNAT for this works fine.
Here''s the issue:
Some of the scripts and such on the server require pointing to the
domain name.
That''s fine. They all work from outside.
I would like to have all requests from inside the network (loc zone)
that point to the web server address (http://techiem2.no-ip.com:444) be
routed to the internal box [192.168.100.10 port 444] (since we all know
that requests that go out and loop back in don''t work).
I''m currently accomplishing this by modifying the hosts file on
whatever
machine I need to use to access the site internally.
This works fine, but is somewhat of a pain.
Especially on my laptop, where this means changing the hosts file every
time I want to use it to connect from outside the network.
I thought of setting a local DNS entry, but realized that some services
(like proftpd) rely on using the domain name to get my external IP
address, so that option is out.
Am I asking the insane/impossible?
Or is this a logical request?
:)
Thanks.
