I left the /etc/shorewall/hosts file empty before it worked in 2.0.5,
but it does not work for version 1.4.10e.
Since 1.3x, I have aways had an input in the files file, and shorewall
would not work without it..

You probably have a zone defined as follows:
/etc/shorewall/interfaces:
z eth0
/etc/shorewall/hosts
z eth0:n.n.n.n/m
The entry in /etc/shorewall/hosts is silly. If you want ''z'' to
only
consist of eth0:n.n.n.n/m then your /etc/shorewall/interfaces entry
should be:
- eth0
