Trouble: Debian 2.0.0b and 2.6.5 to 2.6.6 transition
Hello, This may be slightly off topic, but I''m beginning this investigation and don''t know yet exactly where the problem is ... I''m running Debian testing as the dedicated firewall for my home network - it comes with shorewall 2.0.0b. I really love my setup and its working without problems - usually. Yesterday I upgraded to the debian kernel-image-2.6.6-i386 (from the smoothly running 2.6.5 version of that package) and run into problems: no network connectivity what so ever. DHCP just doesn''t receive any IP offer from my modem. I have spend an hour or so comparing the two setups and the ONLY thing I came up with is that according to lsmod 2.6.6 loads two modules which are not present if I boot into 2.6.5: ipt_MASQUERADE and ipt_REJECT. Does anybody here have an insight into what may be going on or can you give pointers where to look next? I appreciate any hints, Joh

If you can''t even get an IP address, I''m betting that your problem has nothing to do with firewalling. -Tom P.S. - There''s no inherent incompatibility with Shorewall and the 2.6.6 kernel; I run 2.6.6 here although I compile my own 2.6 kernels. -- Tom Eastep \ Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool Shoreline, \ http://shorewall.net Washington USA \ teastep@shorewall.net
