Hi guys, I have an odd problem, I have Debian on my server and 3 computers behind that one,(mixed Win & Linux) Using shorewall 2.0.1. The speed to the net on all 4 comp. is normal, but i can not transfer files between them. I have tried with samba - ftp - http and all fails, the speed between them drops to 0 all the time. I dont have any strange rules and even when shorewall i cleared (and stopped) this problem exists. I have even tried to reinstall the system and changed NIC. Without Shorewall everything goes at normal speed but when i install it and runs the speed dies. One of my friends has the same config and for him everything is normal, so i even tried with his conf files but no better result.>From my other comps everything is normal, both in and out and allprotocolls. It is just inside the LAN it gets screwed up. Anyone with an idea? Need more info? Regards Stefan
How do you have your local network configured? Shorewall running on the firewall should have *no* effect on traffic between systems on your local LAN. And you say that even after "shorewall clear", this problem occurs? -Tom -- Tom Eastep \ Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool Shoreline, \ http://shorewall.net Washington USA \ teastep@shorewall.net
This is where i get confused, all other traffic in and out trough the firewall is not showing any problems, i have 512 kbit/s DSL and i get full speed both up and down, The LAN is based on 100 Mbit and static IP all around, when i first got this problem i thought i´d messed up the config file, so i reinstalled the basesystem, installed just Samba and there where no problems what so ever. Installed and configured shorewall and the problem reinstated itself. I go nuts! So i try "> shorewall clear" but no diffrence.Exactly the same, the speed is 0 kb/s I have checked with iptraf to see if i get a lot of collisions or if the nic drops a lot of packets - but no , everything seems to be in order. It''s just the speed thats gone. /Stefan ----- Original Message ----- From: "Tom Eastep" <teastep@shorewall.net> To: "Mailing List for Shorewall Users" <shorewall-users@lists.shorewall.net> Sent: Monday, May 03, 2004 7:19 PM Subject: Re: [Shorewall-users] Speed problems> > > How do you have your local network configured? "shorewall clear" removes all firewall rules. When you "installed and configured shorewall", did you change your subnetting? -Tom -- Tom Eastep \ Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool Shoreline, \ http://shorewall.net Washington USA \ teastep@shorewall.net
When the system was up and running and i had tried moving files with samba and ftp i installed shorewall, just configured some rules and shorewall.conf so that my Win comp could get access to the internet. nothing else nothing more. Then i tried to move files again and saw the speed being 0 again, so i tried>shorewall clear to see if this would clear the problem, but no. (Since >shorewall stop is a baaad command, i´ve learned the hard way)No i did not change anything regarding the lan setup, not IP and not subnet. Something i should try? ----- Original Message ----- From: "Tom Eastep" <teastep@shorewall.net> To: "Mailing List for Shorewall Users" <shorewall-users@lists.shorewall.net> Sent: Monday, May 03, 2004 7:43 PM Subject: Re: [Shorewall-users] Speed problems> Stefan Jangestig wrote: > > > This is where i get confused, all other traffic in and out trough the > > firewall is not showing any problems, i have 512 kbit/s DSL and i getfull> > speed both up and down, > > The LAN is based on 100 Mbit and static IP all around, when i first gotthis> > problem i thought i´d messed up the config file, so i reinstalled the > > basesystem, installed just Samba and there where no problems what soever.> > Installed and configured shorewall and the problem reinstated itself. Nope, its the same, cleared or stopped, the speed is still 0> Stefan Jangestig wrote: > > > When the system was up and running and i had tried moving files withsamba> > and ftp i installed shorewall, just configured some rules andshorewall.conf> > so that my Win comp could get access to the internet. nothing elsenothing> > more. > > Then i tried to move files again and saw the speed being 0 again, so itried> > > >>shorewall clear to see if this would clear the problem, but no. Stefan Jangestig wrote:> Nope, its the same, cleared or stopped, the speed is still 0So you physically disconnect the Shorewall system from the local LAN and the systems on the LAN are still slow? -Tom -- Tom Eastep \ Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool Shoreline, \ http://shorewall.net Washington USA \ teastep@shorewall.net
