I''ve read your artikle on your site about shorewall. I''ve done everything it says but now, I''ve got an internet connection but I cannot acces my linux machine in any way. Shorewall blocks all traffic to linux. I''ve got 2 NIC''s installed. eth0 in for my local network and eth1 goes out to the rest of the world. Where and what adjustment do I need to make so that eth0 is free accessable from my network? I hope you can help me with this problem. Patrice G. Whanna know my home adress? Just ask me! --=====================_13207080==.ALT Content-Type: text/html; charset="us-ascii" <html> <body> Hi,<br><br> I''m a beginner with linux. I use Mandrake 9.0. Did you follow http://www.shorewall.net/two-interface.htm? or did you have Mandrake set up Internet Connection Sharing? -Tom -- Tom Eastep \ Shorewall - iptables made easy Shoreline, \ http://shorewall.sf.net Washington USA \ teastep@shorewall.net

I am running several Mandrake Boxes with shorewall. But I allways installed shorewall from source. Mandrakes configuration sucks with 2 NICs. What I did: - enable Internet Connection Sharing using Mandrake tools (for the ip_forward) - de-install shorewall RPMs - install shorewall, using the packages from the web - walk through the fast configuration steps Good luck... karsten --------------------------------------------------------------------------- -- By enabling ISC using Mandrake tools, you also get DHCPD configured for you. But... BEWARE -- DO NOT USE MANDRAKE TOOLS TO SET UP ISC IF YOUR EXTERNAL INTERFACE IP ADDRESS IS IN 192.168.1.0/24. If you do, you end up with an unbelievable mess that the average newbie will not be able to recover from. Note that this situation rarely occurs but it did in my lab test and the result was "comical" to say the least. -Tom -- Tom Eastep \ Shorewall - iptables made easy Shoreline, \ http://shorewall.sf.net Washington USA \ teastep@shorewall.net

But...Yeah, that seems to be another problem with Mandrake. Couldn''t get rid of this behavior. But I don''t mind any more, as I recently need DHCP for the laptop... ./karsten -- Hi, I''m a signature virus. Copy me into your ~/.signature to help me spread!
