I''ve received a report of problems where a user installed a Shorewall RPM with SUSE 7.3 -- has anyone else seen problems with that combination? Thanks, -Tom -- Tom Eastep \ Shorewall - iptables made easy AIM: tmeastep \ http://www.shorewall.net ICQ: #60745924 \ teastep@shorewall.net
Tom, I have Shorewall running on two production SuSE 7.3 machines. Both were installed with ''rpm -ivh --nodeps LATEST.rpm'' -- to get past the chkconfig dependency. The only problem I noted was the rpm puts the ''shorewall'' symlink in ''/etc/init.d/init.d/ in SuSE --- but I just mv''d it back to ''/etc/init.d and rm''d the extra dir. I then used the yast2 runlevel editor to config shorewall to start at boot, and the systems work just dandy. I supplied my own SuSE compliant version (I called it /etc/init.d/firewall) and it uses the variable START_FIREWALL in /etc/rc.config to determine if shorewall should be started at bootup. If you copy this script to /etc/init.d and run insserv links in the appropriate runlevel directories are created and it will be started after initalisation of network, ppp and ipsec (In my case) look into the skript the dependencies will become clear and may vary for other users.
