First of all, let me say that this mailing list is a VERY good thing. Many thanks to everyone for your comments, and especially to Tom, whose avid participation (not to mention writing the software) makes this list a real learning experience for people like me who don''t really know squat about networking. I don''t always understand what you guys are talking about, but it''s interesting anyway. I''m writing because I was wondering if Tom has considered making this list into a web forum. Since the list gets more posts than a lot of newsgroups, it might be helpful for it to be online in a threaded and searchable format. Just an idea. Thanks again for the great firewall, and for better "customer support" than I would ever expect, even from software I paid for! Hello Jim, The archives are currently online, threaded and searchable (although the search function is shared with the website itself). I do plan to separate the website and mail list search at some point but beyond that, I have no other plans. -Tom -- Tom Eastep \ Shorewall - iptables made easy AIM: tmeastep \ http://www.shorewall.net ICQ: #60745924 \ teastep@shorewall.net ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jim Hubbard" <jimh@xlproject.com> To: <shorewall-users@shorewall.net> Sent: Tuesday, March 05, 2002 8:30 PM Subject: [Shorewall-users] The mailing list> First of all, let me say that this mailing list is a VERY good thing. > Many thanks to everyone for your comments, and especially to Tom, whose > avid participation (not to mention writing the software) makes this list > a real learning experience for people like me who don''t really know > squat about networking. I use Netscape Mail, and it threads all of the mailing lists i''m on very nicely. I''m not sure about Microsoft products, but there are plenty out there which do threading. The reason i like this approach is because then *i* can choose how it want to view the forum, whereas with a web interface, i have to use what the web site owner decides.> Just an idea. I was thinking of a "Tom for president" campaign, only i''m not American. :-) Paul http://paulgear.webhop.net

Personally, I wouldn''t care if the list was sent out on stone tablets, but consider the potential user surfing the net trying to compare firewall solutions. Yes I know the archives are online, but they lag behind and are incomplete. It was just a passing thought anyway, as long as the firewall works that''s all that matters. -Jim Hubbard
