Now that Sourceforge supports multiple git repositories per project, I
think that we should consider re-organizing our single repository into
multiple repositories.
Today, we have a single repository with the following directories:
Shorewall
Shorewall-lite
Shorewall6
Shorewall6-lite
tools
web
docs
I would prefer to have some of those as separate repositories.
It is especially awkward having the tools in the same repository as the
rest of the products. Today, I needed to create a patch release so I
checked out the 4.4.0 branch.
I applied the appropriate patch to Shorewall and proceeded to build the
patch release. It failed to do something that I wanted it to do (copy
the release notes and known_problems to a known place) so I edited
tools/build/build44, added the command to do what I wanted and re-ran
the build. Crap! The build totally blew up because the 4.4.0 tools were
not capable of building a patch release.
Committed the change to build44, checked out master, applied the build44
fix to master, re-run the build. Damn! Wrong branch is checked out.
Build failed.
Committed the build44 fix to the master branch, checked out 4.4.0, built
again. Oh &^%$#@#$!! Forgot to copy the master branch''s build44 to
/usr/local/bin/...
You get the idea.
Having the web site raw HTML files in the same repository also seems silly.
So I''m thinking of moving at ''tools'' and
''web'' to their own
repositories. Any issues that anyone can see?
Thanks,
-Tom
