Re: release update: release team, blockers, architectures, schedule, goals
Tom and everyone, Today an email went out about Debian''s upcoming release schedule. I have excperted the part that I think is relevant. Hopefully this means that 4.0.x will be supported through the lifecycle of the Lenny release. Based on the most recent release, Lenny will be out for about 18 months before its successor is released. Security support will continue for one year following that. So, assuming that the release schedule is met, the version of Shorewall that ships with Lenny will be floating around there until around March 2010. Given that 4.0 has stabilized quite nicely, I see this as good since the likelihood that major changes will occur to the 4.0 branch are relatively small. Of course, I will continue to make available the latest released shorewall version in my own personal repository. But let''s face it. Many people use Debian and try to stick to only the packages shipping in the stable release (as evidenced by the number of people seeking support running 3.2.6 or 3.0.x from Debian Etch and Ubuntu, respectively). I am just throwing my thoughts out there. Any comments/opinions are welcome. Regards, -Roberto -- Roberto C.
