new ssd to play with
I grabbed a new SSD M4-CT064M4SSD2 from Crucial. I am disappointed. I stuck the unit in an Atom machine (zotac) with CentOS 6 on the disk. It really doesn't "feel" faster than the previous 5400 RPM drive that was in it. The SSD is giving me (in the zotac running centos 6): hdparm -t /dev/sda /dev/sda: Timing buffered disk reads: 298 MB in 3.00 seconds = 99.30 MB/sec The Samsung 5400 R...

Wireless cannot ping gateway after 6.3 CR updates
I'm having a wireless connection issue with an HP laptop and a Zotac media server after the 6.4 package updates from CR repository. Nothing changed with wireless config as far as I can tell. Both have been working fine with previous releases of 6.x. Oddly, if a cat 5 cable is connected for a few seconds and then disconnected the wireless works fine and survives a...

Low random entropy
...arm boards, not an intel. On my Lenovo x120e, cat /proc/sys/kernel/random/entropy_avail reports 3190 bits of entropy. On my armv7 with Centos7 I would get 130 unless I installed rng-tools and then I get ~1300. SSH into one and it drops back to 30! for a few minutes. Sigh. Anyway on my new Zotac nano ad12 with an AMD E-1800 duo core, I am seeing 180. I installed rng-tools and no change. Does anyone here know how to improve the random entropy? thanks

Mini PCs
I have been working, for the past few years, with armv7 SOCs and have a number of servers working. Intel, etal are catching up with ARM and I have seen ones like: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/NEW-Mini-pc-X86-4-Lan-Qotom-Q190G4N-with-celeron-J1900-quad-core-4-usb-VGA/32785346279.html I am looking for a low power (this is 10W) x86_64 board that has at least 2 core and 2GB memory. cli Checking disk i/o
I just built a CentOS7 system on a Zotac NANO PC. I used a 320GB 2.5" HD I had sitting around and installed with Standard Partitions on XFS. The drive is spinning, nonstop. How can I monitor if there is actually disk i/o to warrant this constant spinning. So noatime for all partitions work with XFS?? I did some browsing and th...

Upgrade to CentOS8
Hi folks I have a couple of Zotac mini PCs running CentOS7 which I want/need to upgrade to CentOS8 In theory, they are CentOS8 capable, but assuming Murphy might be lurking around, I prefer validating the hardware before starting the effective installation As there is no LiveCD, what would be the recommended way to do this? Thank...

Motherboard and chipset compatibility
...t it right the first time (and I haven't built a PC in a decade); the time and money cost of shipping anything to and from my remote location in Chile means I can't afford to waste time buying and returning things. First question: does anyone have any experience with the Jetway NF9E-Q77 or ZOTAC Z77ITX-A-E motherboards? Having struck out on Intel Q77 or Z77-based SFF motherboards (the DQ77** series is completely out of stock everywhere, and the DZ77** series is ATX only), I have found a couple of Mini-ITX systems based on these two motherboards. Second question: Where can I get informatio...

Hi to all. I'm experimenting with running a https://www.zotac.com/us/product/graphics_card/geforce%C2%AE-gt-710-1gb-pcie-x-1 card on an Nvidia Jetson TX2 arm64 device. Possible? Linux kernel aarch64 5.6.10. Because Nvidia did not list drivers for this architecture, I'm experimenting with a nouveau driver. The Jetson TX2 has a default driver for the host1x...
