do we support zonepath on UFS formated ZFS volume
Hi, ZFS experts, From ZFS release notes, " Solaris 10 6/06 and Solaris 10 11/06: Do Not Place the Root File Systemof a Non-Global Zone on ZFS. The zonepath of a non-global zone should not reside on ZFS for this release. This action might result in patching problems and possibly prevent the system from being upgraded to a later Solaris 10 update release." So my question is, do we support zonepath on UFS formated ZFS volume ? I am asking becaus...

libzfs zfs_create() fails on sun4u daily bits (daily.1110)
I encountered a strange libzfs behavior while testing a zone fix and want to make sure that I found a genuine bug. I''m creating zones whose zonepaths reside in ZFS datasets (i.e., the parent directories of the zones'' zonepaths are ZFS datasets). In this scenario, zoneadm(1M) attempts to create ZFS datasets for zonepaths. zoneadm(1M) has done this for a long time (since zones started working on ZFS?) and worked fine until recently...

safe zfs-level snapshots with a UFS-on-ZVOL filesystem?
I had some trouble installing a zone on ZFS with S10u4 (bug in the postgres packages) that went away when I used a ZVOL-backed UFS filesystem for the zonepath. I thought I''d push on with the experiment (in the hope Live Upgrade would be able to upgrade such a zone). It''s a bit unwieldy, but everything worked reasonably well - performance isn''t much worse than straight ZFS (it gets much faster with compression enabled, but that...

Solaris 8/9 branded zones on ZFS root?
Hi all, I have a situation where I need to consolidate a few servers running Solaris 9 and 8. If the application doesn''t run natively on Solaris 10 or Nevada, I was thinking of using Solars 9 or 8 branded zones. My intent would be for the global zone to use ZFS boot/root; would I be correct in thinking that this will be OK for the branded zones? That is, they don''t care about

Crossbow and zones
...presentation: http://blogs.sun.com/sunay/resource/crossbow.pdf And have one question. If you create a virtual NIC with dladm: $ dladm create-vnic -d bge0 -m 0:1:2:3:4:5 -b 10000 1 Can you then add vnic1 directly to the zone? e.g.: zonecfg -z zone1 zonecfg:zone1> create zonecfg:zone1> set zonepath=/zones/zone1 zonecfg:zone1> add net zonecfg:zone1> set physical=vnic1 zonecfg:zone1> set address=192.168.1.100 zonecfg:zone1> end zonecfg:zone1> commit The example in the presentation uses the the physical interface bge0, and then sets the bandwidth and priority to the "virt&q...

xVM and zones not co-existing happily
...w. This all changes when I detach all my existing zones: everything in xVM goes back to normal working condition. I have repeated these symptoms on another server as well, however in this case I set up the zones first and then installed xVM. My zone configuration is pretty simple: create -b set zonepath=/zones/adriatic set brand=ipkg set autoboot=false set ip-type=shared add net set address=192.168.31.29 set physical=bge0 end Output of ifconfig shows the zone device alias, although it seems to have multiple loopback devices. Is this normal? lo0: flags=2001000849<UP,LOOPBACK,RUNNING,MULTICAST...

IP Instances with VLAN''s
Hi, how can ip instances be used with vlans ? Is that possible ? I don''t know how to configure this, if I only have one interface (e.g. bge0), and want to assign e.g. bge1000 to a zone. Any cookbooks available ? Thanks Detlef
