Samba 4.11.6 cannot JOIN - 'Could not find machine account'
...been looking for this zone on the windows side, but could not find it in DNS or ADSI Edit. It must have been a remnant left on the samba server from one of the prior failed join attempts, which was due to the Forest vs Domain level replication mode for the domain name zone. So I used samba-tool zonedelete: sudo samba-tool dns zonedelete samba1 ..InProgress-5E38D3A5052380AD-0.168.192.in-addr.arp Now, I can start bind9 and DNS is working again on the samba server! I will move on to integrate dhcpd on the samba machine and hope this problem doesn't reappear (e.g. from a future replication.) &g...

Find/delete bad DNS Entry
...So I can't compare it to Apache Directory Studio. Is there some way to query the underlying samba DNS data store to find the most recently added DNS entry? I checked for but couldn't find krb4.conf so I guess I don't have Kerberos configured. Being a fairly new linux/Samba user the zonedelete option seems scary. ...92.in-addr.arpa', I thought you were sanitizing your reverse zone (but why, I couldn't work out) Rowland No, I'm sanitizing just a little bit. What I am seeing is this search sees no reverse zone yet, a zonelist appears to have a reverse zone? Any "zonecreate" or "zonedelete" or attempts to add a PTR record fail in similar complaint like the query result posted. I have watched so many log files that they have become a blur and I am sure I have overlooked some detail. Any suggestion on my next step will be greatly appreciated. -- ______________________________...

Find/delete bad DNS Entry
We added a DNS entry to Samba via the Windows DNS Manager which apparently was invalid. Now we can't see the list of forward lookup in the Window DNS Manager because it immediately errors and we have to restart the Samba service. Running Samba 4.3.11-Ubuntu on Ubuntu 16.04 Additionally, a samba-tool dns query fails with the following error: > $ samba-tool dns query dc1.mydomain.com
