no menu.c32, no problem...
Fellow syslinux fans,
I'm using syslinux on a boot floppy (I'll call this syslinux A) to
invoke an etherboot image (zlilo style) which invokes a tagged NBI
image from my DHCP/TFTP server. The tagged NBI image is created using
mknbi-dos and also uses syslinux (I'll call this syslinux B), a linux
kernel and an initrd file.
It works perfectly if syslinux A has a basic .CFG, e.g.:
PROMPT 0
TIMEOUT 0

pxelinux -> pxeboot load?
Hi all,
I've searched the depths of the resources on the internet; however
I'm having trouble deploying a pxeboot solution via pxelinux. So far
what I have successfully implemented in my infrastructure is a
successful pxeboot setup for FreeBSD ( without the use of pxelinux ).
I'd ultimately like to have a solution that will allow me to choose a
network install of various Unix-like

ethersel.c32 issues
Hello!
ethersel.c32 does not seem to work with all PCs. I have prepared a
floppy that uses ethersel.c32 to load a NIC-specific file (etherboot
.zlilo image). See http://etherboot.anadex.de for details.
It works with every NIC and every PC I own, but not with VMWare. I know
VMWare has some problems, so that did not bother me at all and I
published it anyway but I have received several e-mails about problems
with ethersel.c32 and real PCs.

PXE-on-a-disk Intel EM64T reboot
...Etherboot to create a
generic "PXE-on-a-disk" package, a floppy image and CD image that
support as many Ethernet cards as possible.
These have support for all of Etherboot's modules that support real PCI
cards: about 25-or-so drivers and 250-or-so cards. I've built Etherboot
ZLILO images, one for each driver, set up to boot as a PXE stack. I've
used "ethersel.c32" to choose the correct image for each detected PCI
card, and it seems to work.
I made a fairly straightforward Perl script to take Etherboot's internal
PCI device table and munge that into a f...

[patch] PXE-On-A-Disk: etherboot2ethersel.pl patched for etherboot-5.4.3+dfgs
...rivate/jlehan/pxe-on-a-disk.html) with
etherboot-5.4.3. I hope it doesn't matter much that I actually used
Debian source package. It failed:
$ ./etherboot2ethersel.pl.orig etherboot-5.4.3+dfsg/src/bin/ TEMPDIR/
Sorry, couldn't find etherboot-5.4.3+dfsg/src/bin//mlx_ipoib/mt23108.zlilo file, may be a
problem with make allzlilos at ./etherboot2ethersel.pl.orig line
189, <ETHER> line 365.
I patched etherboot2ethersel.pl to fix it:
$ ./etherboot2ethersel.pl.patched etherboot-5.4.3+dfsg/src/bin/

syslinux vs grub
Okay, I'm going to ask the gajillion-dollar question...
I've been doing syslinux for 11 years now. From a very limited scope it
has since grown and is now a very advanced boot loader.
Unfortunately, it's not clear to me anymore to what extent the work I'm
doing is useful.
I personally dislike grub because of its monolithic design, and because
the grub people have

You got some 'splaininn to do Lucy ;-)
We just had a security application vendor come in. We asked about Linux
support and he said that putting a security application on top of an
insecure OS was useless. When I asked what he meant by insecure he replied
that Linux does not have a true Auditing capability - as opposed to HP-UX &
Solaris which they do support. Can anyone explain to me what he was talking
about?
Thanks,
Marty

[RFC PATCH 00/35] Xen i386 paravirtualization support
Unlike full virtualization in which the virtual machine provides
the same platform interface as running natively on the hardware,
paravirtualization requires modification to the guest operating system
to work with the platform interface provided by the hypervisor.
Xen was designed with performance in mind. Calls to the hypervisor
are minimized, batched if necessary, and non-critical codepaths

openssh-2.3.0p1 installation problem (still)
i posted here a couple days ago with a fairly minor (depending on how you look at it) installation problem and while ive used string and duct tape to fix it, i have not heard anything back about it.
the problem is if you ./configure --with-default-path=/yourpath it doesnt seem to actually work. scp was not working for me and after checking the faq, i saw this was my problem as scp was installed

scp not found - OpenSSH 2.3.0p1 on slack 7
hi,
let me start by saying ive tried everything i can think of with the --with-default-path configure flag.
USER_PATH in config.h is correctly getting the value of this flag.
i am installing to the default locations (user binaries to /usr/local/bin).
ssh works fine, (after i did the LIBS=-lcrypt thing) but now, no matter what i do, i get "sh: scp: command not found" whenever i try to
