ZFS fails with latest C8 kernel
As if last weekend's UEFI debacle wasn't bad enough, it now seems the latest C8 kernel (4.18.0-193.14.2) is incompatible with the current ZFSOnLinux packages (0.8.4-1). When booted to the latest kernel, ZFS is inaccessible on my C8 storage server. When I back off to the prior kernel (4.18.0-193.6.3), all is well. If a local ZFS system is unavailable to the C8 kernel support folks, I'll be happy to assist them by volunteering my system as a...

ZFS on Linux repository
Hi list, we all know why ZFS is not included in RHEL/CentOS distributions: its CDDL license is/seems not compatible with GPL license. I'm not a layer, and I do not have any strong opinion on the matter. However, as a sysadmin, I found ZFS to be extremely useful, especially considering BTRFS sad state. I would *really* love to have ZFS on Linux more intergrated with current CentOS. From

What about ZFS ?
Hi everybody, I'm looking for information about using GlusterFS with ZFS. I got information that talked about a sort of incompatibility between the both technologies because of unsupported xattr feature in ZFS. What are the latest news about this ? Thank you in advance.

upgrade to 7.4 ZFS issue
Hi all, I have a server running 7.3 using the zfs-kmod packages from zfsonlinux.org. For the update to 7.4, I followed https://github.com/zfsonlinux/zfs/wiki/RHEL-&-CentOS: removal of all zfs - and related packages and installation of the zfs-release.7.4.noarch.rpm Afterwards, yum will find almost all packages from that repository - except for the zfs-0.7.1-1.el7_4.x86_64...

ZFS on Linux in production?
...entOS shop, and have the lucky, fortunate problem of having ever-increasing amounts of data to manage. EXT3/4 becomes tough to manage when you start climbing, especially when you have to upgrade, so we're contemplating switching to ZFS. As of last spring, it appears that ZFS On Linux http://zfsonlinux.org/ calls itself production ready despite a version number of 0.6.2, and being acknowledged as unstable on 32 bit systems. However, given the need to do backups, zfs send sounds like a godsend over rsync which is running into scaling problems of its own. (EG: Nightly backups are being threate...

How many "rollback" TXGs in a ring for 4k drives?
Hello all, I found this dialog on the zfs-devel at zfsonlinux.org list, and I''d like someone to confirm-or-reject the discussed statement. Paraphrasing in my words and understanding: "Labels, including Uberblock rings, are fixed 256KB in size each, of which 128KB is the UB ring. Normally there is 1KB of data in one UB, which gives 128...

IRC question: How to install a kernel module using virt-customize
...mage. How can I do this using virt-customize? Please stay in the IRC channel after asking questions! Anyway, the answer depends on the guest and the kernel module. For example if it was a Debian guest and you wanted to install the ZFS dkms package, then following the instructions here: http://zfsonlinux.org/debian.html you could do this: $ wget http://archive.zfsonlinux.org/debian/pool/main/z/zfsonlinux/zfsonlinux_6_all.deb $ virt-customize -a debian-8.img \ --install lsb-release \ --upload zfsonlinux_6_all.deb:/tmp \ --run-command 'dpkg -i /tmp/zfsonlinux_6_all.deb'...

How to build vfs_zfsacl module on Linux platform?
Solaris OS has ZFS as primary filesystem, that has own implementation of ACL (NFS v4 ACL). Samba uses zfsacl and acl_xattr modules for converting NT ACL to ZFS ACL and extended attributes of file in this OS. ZfsOnLinux team ported ZFS as a number of kernel-linked modules to Linux OS, so ZFS on Linux supports NFS ACL, deduplication, compresson and other features of Solaris ZFS v.28. But NFS ACL is not compatible with POSIX ACL, the one type of ACL Samba can use on Linux platform. Acl_xattr and acl_tdb modules cann...

ZFS
> Maybe you can tune ZFS further, but I tried it in userspace (with FUSE) and reading was a almost 5 times slower than MDADM. That alone is meaningless. MDADM with which filesystem? Zfsonlinux does not work in user space, it is a kernel module. Just try it.

Ubuntu and ZFS
...people have requested removing the dependency on zfs-fuse from the ubuntu packages that Richard released last week, and there is some confusion about the state of ZFS in Ubuntu. There are 2 Linux compatible implementations of ZFS, zfs-fuse (http://gitweb.zfs-fuse.net/) and ZFS on Linux (http://zfsonlinux.org/). ZFS-fuse is in the official Ubuntu repos but is rather outdated and almost all development has stopped. ZFS on Linux (aka ZoL) is an open source but license incompatible kernel module that is under active development and released as source packages for most major distos. There is a ppa...

ZFS for Linux?
Hello, A college friend of mine is using Debian Linux on his desktop, and wondered if he could tap into ZFS goodness without adding another server in his small quiet apartment or changing the desktop OS. According to his research, there are some kernel modules for Debian which implement ZFS, or a FUSE variant. Can anyone comment how stable and functional these are? Performance is a

CentOS-7 and zfs
...t I wish to experiment with zfs. I have a couple of questions: Q1. Finding a good install tutorial for zfs on CentOS-7 has so far eluded my google-fu. Would someone be so kind as to provide either recommendations for same or direct how-to instructions? And any gotchas. Q2. https://github.com/zfsonlinux/zfs/issues/2575 seems to be of some concern for CentOS-7 users. Are others experiencing this or is it specific to raid users? -- *** E-Mail is NOT a SECURE channel *** James B. Byrne mailto:ByrneJB at Harte-Lyne.ca Harte & Lyne Limited http://www.ha...
