What is the correct way to replace a good disk?
I have a 9-bay JBOD configured as a raidz2. One of the disks, which is on-line and fine, needs to be swapped out and replaced. I have been looking though the zfs admin guide and am confused on how I should go about swapping out. I though I could put the disk off-line, remove it, put a new disk in, and put on-line. Does this sound right?
Any help would be great
Thanks
Chris

ZFS Pool Question
Hello, I''m looking for info on adding a disk to my current zfs pool. I am running OpenSoarlis snv_98. I have upgraded my pool since my image-update. When I installed OpenSolaris it was a machine with 2 hard disks (regular IDE). Is it possible to add the second hard disk to the pool to increase my storage capacity without a raid controller?

corruption. Applications may be affected.

Restore a ZFS Root Mirror
Hi all,
after installing OpenSolaris 2008.05 in VirtualBox I''ve created a ZFS Root Mirror by:
"zfs attach rpool Disk B"
and it works like a charm. Now I tried to restore the rpool from the worst Case
Scenario: The Disk the System was installed to (Disk A) fails.
I replaced the Disk A with another virtual Disk C and tried to restore the rpool, but
my Problem is that I

How do you "re-attach" a 3 disk RAIDZ array to a new OS installation?
Hi,
I''m completely new to Solaris, but have managed to bumble through installing it to a single disk, creating an additional 3 disk RAIDZ array and then copying over data from a separate NTFS formatted disk onto the array using NTFS-3G.
However, the single disk that was used for the OS installation has since died (it was very old) and I have had to reinstall 2008.11 from scratch onto a

Change the volblocksize of a ZFS volume
Dear all,
Background:
I have a ZFS volume with the incorrect volume blocksize for the filesystem (NTFS) that it is supporting.
This volume contains important data that is proving impossible to copy using Windows XP Xen HVM that "owns" the data.
The disparity in volume blocksize (current set to 512bytes!!) is causing significant performance problems.
Question :
Is there a way to

Replacing Devices in a Storage Pool
Hi,
Assume that you have a 2-way mirror of small drives that you want to replace with another 2-way mirror of larger drives. What is the best way to do this?
If you use the zpool replace command, one at a time on each of the existing old drives, then you will end up wasting the additional space on the new drives. I have tried to access this space by creating a new pool and adding the unused

Cannot share RW, "Permission Denied" with sharenfs in ZFS
Hi everyone,
I have just installed Solaris and have added a 3x500GB raidz drive array. I am able to use this pool (''tank'') successfully locally, but when I try to share it remotely, I can only read, I cannot execute or write. I didn''t do anything other than the default ''zfs set sharenfs=on tank''... how can I get it so that any allowed user can access

POSIX permission bits, ACEs, and inheritance confusion
I am running a test system with Solaris 10u6 and I am somewhat confused as to how ACE inheritance works. I''ve read through http://opensolaris.org/os/community/zfs/docs/zfsadmin.pdf but it doesn''t seem to cover what I am experiencing.
The ZFS file system that I am working on has both aclmode and aclinherit set to passthrough, which I thought would result in the ACEs being just that - passed through without modification.
In my test scenario, I am creating a folde...

rquota didnot show userquota (Solaris 10)
Hi,
we have a new fileserver running on X4275 hardware with Solaris 10U8.
On this fileserver we created one test dir with quota and mounted these
on another Solaris 10 system. Here the quota command didnot show the
used quota. Does this feature only work with OpenSolaris or is it
intended to work on Solaris 10?
Here what we did on the server:
# zfs create -o mountpoint=/export/home2

What''s eating my disk space? Missing snapshots?
Please can someone take a look at the attached file which shows the output on my machine of
zfs list -r -t filesystem,snapshot -o space rpool/export/home/matt
The USEDDS figure of ~2GB is what I would expect, and is the same figure reported by the Disk Usage Analyzer. Where is the remaining 13.8GB USEDSNAP figure coming from? If I total up the list of zfs-auto snapshots it adds up to about 4.8GB,

Raid-Z expansion
Apologies for the blank message (if it came through).
I have heard here and there that there might be in development a plan
to make it such that a raid-z can grow its "raid-z''ness" to
accommodate a new disk added to it.
Example:
I have 4Disks in a raid-z[12] configuration. I am uncomfortably low on
space, and would like to add a 5th disk. The idea is to pop in disk 5
and have
