ProMAX/SeisSpace, a geophysical calculation software edited by
Halliburton and costing roughly $ 50.000 / workstation still requires
RHEL 5.x to run.

as well as not allowing any updates to the OS. At all.
Yeah, I know...
If updated, the instrument software will break, like in an atomic mushroom
cloud, rendering critical hardware non-working and lab people standing
outside my office with torches, pitch-forks and all the shebang.
Yupp, unfortunately that's the current state of some lab equipment
manufacturers that use RHEL as a base...

packageDate() segfaults, if used without argument
Out of curiosity, I played a bit with the new function packageDate()
from April, 4th. All works fine, except using it without any argument.
In this case, it segfaults:
#> packageDate()
Error in packageDescription(pkg, lib.loc = lib.loc, fields = date.fields) :
argument "pkg" is missing, with no default

<= returns wrong result? Why
Dear all,
Does anybody know the probable reason why <= gives false when it should give
true?
These two variables are of the same type, and everything works in the cycle
but then it stops when they are equal.
this is the output result

Admins supporting both RHEL and CentOS
With a few exceptions, I see most admins treat CentOS as a single
rolling release and rely on the ABI commitment assuming things
just work between point releases. On the other hand I see the
opposite with RHEL where admins constrain installations to the
point release.
What is the case with users on this list who support both?
Thanks,

<RBloomberg Package Problem>
Hi R-Experts,
I'm currently using R 2.4.0 in Windows XP. I'm trying to download data
from Bloomberg using the package "RBloomberg", but it fails to install
the three needed packages "zoo", "chron" and 'Rbloomberg". Moreover I
am not able to find "RBloomberg" package as windows binary in CRAN
site as only for MAC it's given. Please

Alternative GUI
Hey All,
I'm considering moving from CentOS 6 to CentOS 7. I'm not interested in
dealing with Gnome 3. I've heard good things about Mate, a fork of
Gnome 2. it appears that Mate is available in the EPEL repository
associated with CentOS 7.
Have any of you tried Mate on CentOS 7? In your experienced opinion
what would I be giving up by abandoning Gnome 3 and installing Mate

YP submission / cURL issue. (icecast 2.0.1 / gentoo)
Yupp, same results. What else can be trying? Perms all seems a-ok, the name
resolution issue makes me feel funny. Here's a URL to the ptrace -f of the
non-chrooted run -- http://tinyurl.com/ytsqv ..
Although, MIRACULOUSLY, non-chrooted, non-privlidged, port 8000, + DNS works?!

it sounds like if you don't chroot it works and if you do it doesn't ?
I've never really run icecast using chroot, so I'm not entirely sure of all
the stuff you need to do to make sure it works...

Odd:
I just pulled SVN and compiled.. Wonderful new logging code, btw!
Now, why in the WORLD would the resolution be failling?! nsswitch.conf /
resolv.conf / hosts is all fine.. *shrug*
I can obviously put IPs instead of hosts in the URLs, however things still
fail..
