About the membership issue
Concerning the disabled membership (yesterday). Is there anything that I should do? Visiting the "re-enable" link shows only a plain site with meta information about the list but without any feedback like "membership enabled". Albeit some postings are coming in again now (with "normalized" sender address <centos at centos.org>). Seems the work to resolve

Wine and cyrillic input and output ?
Hello. Is it possible to run russian win98 programs under current wine, and get russian input and output? If yous, how to setup this? My desktop is russian, I have both koi8-r and unicode fonts installed. Last time I tried wine some months ago (maybe a year), and all russian output of the programs was unreadable - it looked like second byte of unicode characters was just set to zero. Thanks for your answe...

Quote, dollar and pipe
Hi All, By working on our bootstrap puppet scripts (executed wih standalone puppet), I found a difference between pipe and file parsing : A simple file with a content : $ cat withdollar.pp file { "/tmp/withdoller.txt": content => ''something like echo $1'' } When puppet parses the file : $ puppet withdollar.pp notice:

will BDC work if PDC crashes?
Hello, Will BDC work if PDC crashes or there is no connectivity between them? I assume that the servers are storing users / passwords in LDAP database; both BDC and PDC have LDAP running locally (changes in PDC are replicated to BDC). Will users be able to log into the domain / use roaming profiles with no PDC (as it crashed or link was broken), when only BDC is running? Tomek

dell says bye bye to Linux
...s a real PITA. Capital PITA. Unbelievably techie and that is bad. I say that because I was a techie in the DOS years. People came to me to do this or that thing that they couldn't do because they were not computer nerds. Like me. I'm no longer interested in being the nerd of the moment. Youse guys have inherited that title. Too bad for you, I'm afraid. Because you have also inherited a mantle of leadership. So, here is the point of all this. I want to run Linux. But I no longer want to be techie about it. I do not care to learn all the command line tricks of the trade. With th...

[SUMMARY] 2 Linux boxes, failover, & 1 EXT3 RAID
Hello, Many warm thank yous to Bill Rugolsky Jr. and Stephen Tweedie for their help on this one. Both pointed out that since the file system is journaled, if the primary box (nas1) were to crash, the secondary box should mount the ext3 file system without any problems. Depending on the nature of the journal (metadata journa...

Hiccup in installing R 2.2.0
...viledges, so I was able to remove this (empty) directory. I then tried ``make'' again, and this time it ran to completion. So I'm alright, Jack. It would seem however that something is not ***quite*** as it should be in the installation procedure. I thought I'd just draw this to youse guys' attention. :-) cheers, Rolf Turner rolf at math.unb.ca

Rails urls & the AWD book
Greetings! I''m having a hard time understanding the way Rails handles urls. I''m specifically having real trouble with the image_urls in the Depot app in the Agile Web Development book. If I enter "\image\file.png" in the Add Product page, the image is displayed in the other views and Properties shows http://localhost:3000/images/file.png If I leave off the leading

Debugging the hypervisor
I am trying to debug the Xen hypervisor from a second computer over the serial port, but nothing seems to work. Using mercurial, I got xen-3.2-testing.hg. I followed the steps in crashdb.txt in the docs/misc/ folder: set debug=y in Config.mk, crash_debug=y in xen/Rules.mk I also added -fno-omit-frame-pointer to these file as well. I compiled with no errors and booted with minicom connected to

To ASM or Not to ASM is the question!
Had anybody done benchmarks comparing 10G RAC with and without ASM? Better yet I would like to know if there are any performance improvements of using ASM instead of OCFS. With all the hardware RAID available I'm having a hard time to justify the use of ASM. Any feedback is appreciated. Raj
