WINS across two networks and a router
Hello, everybody. This one''s got me stumped. What I''m trying to do is have
two networks--192.168.1.0 and 192.168.2.0--with SMB and WINS running between
them. So far I can mount SMB shares allright, but I can''t browse by WINS
names across the router. I''ve posted this question on Linuxquestions.org;
you''ll find the details there.
Here are my

by name across subnets. Things on the same subnet ping allright by name.
Here are the smb.conf files for my two master browsers:

CentOS on Compaq Proliant Rackmount Servers
Greetings,
Can anyone relate experience(s) installing CentOS on Compaq rack mount
servers units please?
Easy no problem, easy some issues, or ghastly do not do it under any
circumstances... ;)
Basically, I'm looking at some used/refurb dual PIII units and will run RAID
on Compaq built in SCSI or is it easy to pop in some 3ware SATA in them?
Let me know in terms of CentOS 3 and/or 4 please.

Legacy option for key length?
...t;embrace, extend, extinguish",
everybody here would nod their head.? Our job is to provide a better
alternative.? This recent change, which removed shorter keys, could have
been done slightly differently and we would continue to be a better
alternative. Now, sadly, people have to dig into yesteryear and find a
better alternative.? That not only sucks, it creates space for a good
alternative that will displace openssh.
I think a very good question which needs to be asked is, what value does
disallowing shorter keys bring over severely deprecating them (i.e.
allowing them by use of command...

"less than commodity" cluster configuration of the PC Servers. It
too is also a "power hungry" setup, and very costly.
The reality is that a dual-2.8GHz Xeon MCH system does _not_ have
the same interconnect capable of an even _yesteryear_ UltraSPARC
II hardware that actually had a _drastically_lower_ cost overall. And
even then, for its age, price, etc..., the "old" 4-way UltraSPARC II
NUMA/UPA was quite "competitive" against a processor with 7x the
CPU clock, but because the latter, "newer" P4 MCH pl...

Hardware RAID Controller
Hi Everyone,
Has anyone had any experience of using the Promise FastTrak SX4000 or
SuperTrak SX6000 IDE RAID Controllers under Centos (if it matters I'm
using version 4). I've seen it listed on linuxcompatible.org as working
but would prefer to find out any first-hand experince before I buy.
I'm looking to build a new mini server based on Mini-ITX and have found

Application Design Question
I am designing an application to run a fishing tournament I am
hosting. Each fish entered will be given a point total based on the
length of the fish and the species of fish. Each species has a point
multiplier. For Example Trout have a multiplier of 10 so a 20 inch
Trout would have a score of 200.
My conundrum is in where and when do I calculate the points. The
options I have come up

personal opinion of AEL is that it's coming along nicely, but it's still not
up to the point where I would consider using it for most dialplans. That

will come, and I'm working with Steve Murphy to ensure that it does. One
thing that you did not see in the language wars of yesteryear was of the
assembly language changing in subtle ways, to make development in the
higher level language easier or more consistent, as is the case with AEL and
extensions.conf.

Yager on ZFS
Not sure if it''s been posted yet, my email is currently down...
http://weblog.infoworld.com/yager/archives/2007/10/suns_zfs_is_clo.html
Interesting piece. This is the second post from Yager that shows
solaris in a pretty good light. I particularly like his closing
comment:
"If you haven''t checked out ZFS yet, do, because it will eventually
become ubiquitously implemented
