One (admittedly cumbersome) solution is to write the graph to a ps file, then take the file into Ghostview (freely available from web), convert the ps file to eps, and then insert an eps viewer. The rpm for R installed fine on my version of SuSE 10. This is probably overkill but from the 'selections' page in yast I enabled the c/c++ compiler and tools then I individually enabled blas and a couple of other things... I don't remember.
