Trust Accounts and Machine Name Case
I've been very frustrated with getting XP to connect to samba.
I added a machine account on Linux
useradd -g workstation -d /dev/null -s /bin/false xpmachine$
then pdbedit -a -m -u xpmachine
on XP i change the name to xpmachine and connect as root.
I'm welcomed into my domain as expected
When I reboot I cannot login because my account isn't recognized
although I can login as administrator and browse, map etc.
The Samba log says no account...

PDC samba
Hi,
Got two questions.
1. If I'd added a machine to my domain (using samba as pdc) with the
followig commands:
/usr/sbin/useradd -g machines -c XPMachine -d /dev/null -s /bin/false $1$
/usr/bin/smbpasswd -a -m $1$
How should I then remove one of them if made a mistake osv?
2. How can I change the adminpassword for PDC?

problems in MacOS X, connecting to shares with accents in name
Hi. I need to connect to shares in a WinXP machine, which have
accentuated characters and spaces in its name. I'm using Samba 3.0.0rc2
in MacOS 10.3, and when I use the `connect to server' option (for
instance, to smb://xpmachine/Trabajos en realizaci?n), I get the login
window, but after introducing my login name and passw. I obtain a -43
error (operation not complete because some items are missing). In fact,
it tries to connect substituting the spaces and accents by %20 and
%C3%B3 codes (I though the code for ? was a...

winxp roaming profiles and samba group access rights
...t; however the profile is created on the server in
the correct location with the appropriate user rights (700) and when the
user logs out the profile is updated !!!!!, BUT it cannot be found at the
next login.
Also it is definitely NOT logging into the domain. A user who is not a
local user of the xpmachine cannot login.
Should I have security = domain instead of secuity = user ??
Would this fix this issue ?

upgrade broke XP workstation logins, variably
...o problems.
I already tried turning off the firewall on the server and it made no
difference.
SMB folder mounting works 100% reliably. It is only the domain logins
that are (very) iffy.
tcpdump of failed logins shows a very large number of packets being sent
from the workstation like this:
xpmachine.caltech.edu.1026 > smbserver.netbios-ssn
with absolutely nothing going back.
log.nmbd has these lines (as if it is working correctly)
