Performance with XP64
What sort of performance is expected over GigE, with Samba 3 as the
server and XP64 as the client? I havn't been able to find any current
benchmarks at all.
http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2010-June/156708.html talks about
the same configuration, and suggests that the protocol should be able
to break 100MB/sec. (Unfortunately, the poster disappeared without

smb.conf 3.0.7 -> 3.0.23c domain master problem
Hi all,
We have an old 3.0.7 samba running as PDC. As we have problems with XP64
clients accessing the domain, I compiled a 3.0.23c and copied the
smb.conf. Some of the client work well with the new Samba, but most of
them do not. Was there any relevant change in the smb.conf part between
the two versions?
Thanks

Xen VGA Passthrough - GTX 680 successfully hard-moded to GRID K2
Hi Gordan,
I wanted to let you know that today I decided to have a try for my GTX 680. Gigabite GTX 680 2048 MB GDDR5.
I know that this particular card could be hard-moded to GRID K2 so VGA passthrough could work.
Following instructions found on http://www.eevblog.com/forum/chat/hacking-nvidia-cards-into-their-professional-counterparts/420/ I just removed two resistors.
Here is a screenshot

Bad substitution for %a variable
Hi,
The %a variable is not well substituted for XP64.
For separation of profiles of different OS we use the %a variable:
logon path = \\%L\Profiles\%U\%a
With samba3021b the variable points to Win2K for XP64! This result in
trouble with the user profiles!

restoring roaming profiles
I'm running Version 4.1.17-Debian as a DC on a Debian/Jessie AMD64 system.
After rebuilding a domain with slightly different settings, roaming
profiles stopped working.
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Implementing_roaming_profiles contains
a suggestion (see Troubleshooting roaming profiles) that gets them
working again - deleting the user subkey from

3.5.4-0.70.el5_6.1 logon problems with Windows 7
Hello,
I am running Samba 3.5.4-0.70.el5_6.1 on a Centos 5 machine.
I have recently installed a Windows 7 Ultimate x64 workstation. Joining
the Samba domain was successful however I am unable to login onto the
machine with this domain. On my Windows XP64 bit it works ok.
The error message windows is giving me is:
"There are currently no logon servers available to service the logon
request"
However, when I login with a local account, I can access all the shares I
have made on the Samba server without any problems.....
The following...

Question about .bs and .bss style bootsectors.
...llo
Recently I've been happily experimenting with syslinux, replacing grub
and my old bootmanager. All works beautifully, but I have one question -
in case of .bss bootsectors - what exactly and under what circumstances
is patched in ?
With syslinux used as main bootmanager - bootsectors from xp64, xp32 and
[pre-syslinux] msdos 7.1 (98se) work perfectly fine when chainloaded
natively as .bs (and dos also as .bss).
PS.
By the way - there's another "trick" to make dos (at least microsoft
versions) to boot from another harddisk - if you set actual physical
drive number in its...

Upgrading 2.15.3 to 3.0.x on Debian Squeeze?
...e
explicit, step-by-step instructions somewhere? I've looked
unsuccessfully.
Is this a fairly foolproof upgrade? Minor upgrades have certainly
seemed simple on both Linux and Windows.
Thanks,
Bill
PS: I'll also have to upgrade a Windows installation soon. I'm running
2.15.3 under XP64 on one machine and under XP on another, and both will
get new installations of W7 after the disks are wiped. Is there a neat
way to reinstall all the packages I currently have when I reinstall R
(version 3.0.2 on W7)?

VGA Passthrough of AMD FirePro W7000 to Windows 8: Not enough resources
I''m using Xen 4.3, installed from source on Ubuntu 13.04. I''ve
successfully installed a Windows 8 guest, and had Xen pass it an AMD
FirePro W7000 GPU (technically 2 PCI devices - the second is for the
sound), as well as the virtualised graphics adapter. Windows finds the
card fine, and I''ve installed AMD''s drivers. Device Manager says that
the card cannot

Another problem: I've got one old XP64 box that the fix doesn't work on.
If I delete the subkey, I can't log on using that account.

Learning and new - any distro ready to install several OSs from live CD?

This is a good time to develop this kind of distribution, becouse there
are a lot of people with dual installations of XP/Vista and

even there are some that has XP64/XP32/Vista64/Vista32 becouse of better

Old problem with get_file_version , Windows 2003 x64 (Jerry, you know this one!)
Jerry, All,
I am trying to get x64 drivers installed onto a Samba 3.0.24 server,
however I am getting an error that looks like it was last seen in 2005,
ie when Windows checks the driver is uploaded OK, it thinks it's not for
the correct architecture:

GPL PV drivers for Windows 0.9.11-pre12
I''ve just uploaded 0.9.11-pre12 of the GPL PV drivers for Windows.
Since -pre10 (and -pre11) I''ve fixed a heap of crashes that were
plaguing xennet under load, and also rewritten the interrupt/event
distribution logic to improve performance.
Under windows 2003 I can now get network speeds of 1-2Gbit/second TX and
600Gbit/second RX, which is considerably better than I was
