Remote X connection to CentOS 5.5 using Xming -ac
Hello,
I've rented a dedicated root server (SR7 at strato.de)
and would like to run qemu at it, but get the error:
# qemu -hda install.img -cdrom install47.iso -boot d
Could not initialize SDL - exiting
It seems that I have to establish X connection,
so I've installed Xming at my WinXP laptop
and at the server I have changed these 3 lines
in the /etc/ssh/sshd_config:
X11Forwarding yes
X11DisplayOffset 10
X11UseLocalhost yes
And also I have installed these Xorg packages:
# rpm -qa | grep -i xorg
xorg-x11-utils-7.1-2.fc6
xorg-x11-drv-evdev-1.0.0.5-5.el5...

OT: configuring xming to know putty's not in a std. location
Is there some way to do this? I've got the current putty (actually,
putty-cac), pageant, and plink in my user's Downlods directory - neither
he nor I have admin authority on his laptop, and Desktop support's
teleworking today - but I can't seem to find a way to configure xming to
look there for putty.
Or is it start putty, *then* start xming?

Issue getting Gnome display manager on Centos 6 to Xming on Win7
Greetings -
My objective is to get a full Gnome GUI console display to show in an Xming
window on my Win7 box. I do a similar thing with my Raspberry Pi so that it
operates headless with just the power and network cord attached. My CentOS
6 box and the Win7 box are on the same network within my office LAN behind a
good firewall. For various reasons that I won't go into I am...

No start xming in passive mode (I don't know xming so don't know how to
do that - you just want to start the xserver and not have it start any
applications on the remote machine).

xen gui with argo
Hi all,
I have made an ebuild for Steve''s argo xen-tools (v0.6),
if any interest I will put it online.
I am also experimenting by expanding argo to have remote
console access (with a AJAX we interface) so far it''s
not perfect but I am getting the console.
cheers

...) CentOS7 with Development and Creative workstation

Adding "Enable=true" in [xdmcp] section

working with R graphics remotely
Hi netters,
Now I'm connecting from my local windows machine to a remote linux machine
and launch R out there using SSH. When I tried to create grahics, like
using plot or heatmap, I cannot see the output. Maybe a new R window
displaying the graphics has popped out in the remote machine? Or I need to
change some settings for the graphics to display? I don't know. I googled
it and

XDMCP - no GDM login, only gray screen with X
I'm having trouble getting the GDM login screen to show up when I
connect from a remote host. I'm using Xming on the local Windows
machine, but every time I connect to the remote server all I get is a
gray window with the X cursor. I have "Enable=true" in the [xdmcp]
section of /etc/gdm/custom.conf. IPtables is disabled. I've googled
around and read through the xdmcp page on tldp.org but h...

Re: [virt-tools-list] Is virsh supposed to work on Windows?

If it were just for me I'd live with that. But other TI people here are
complaining about "not user friendly" running remote-viewer directly and
do not want to use Xming. So I need to provide an "easier" way to remote
guest console access from windows, and also a way to run some kvm
administration. As I said, they are already lobbying to move from KVM to
something else. :-(

Redhat Linux Install
...hy are png and cairo still FALSE?
2. I would also like to have X11 enabled. From reading the message board,
the consesus seems to be to install xorg-dev. I'm unable to do this because
I don't have root or super user priveleges. But if I'm able to log into my
work servers with PuTTY and Xming and run xemacs or xvim, does this mean
that X11 is already installed somewhere? If so, how do I specify this when
doing ./configure?

Re: [Spice-devel] [virt-tools-list] Is virsh supposed to work on Windows?
Hey Fernando,
1) As a possible workaround, can't you put a Linux server with virt-manager
installed somewhere, and then have the Windows sysadmins use it through X11
forwarding (with Xming, or Cygwin installed on the Windows machines)?
2) Also, if virt-manager can run under Cygwin, you can use it directly on
the Windows machines that way (I don't know if it does).
Cheers,
iordan

Xen paravirt frontend block hang
Sorry for the noise if this isn't the appropriate venue for this. I
posted this last month to xen-devel:
http://lists.xensource.com/archives/html/xen-devel/2007-11/msg00777.html
I can reliably cause a paravirt_ops Xen guest to hang during intensive
IO. My current recipe is an untar/tar loop, without compression, of a
kernel tree. For example:

you mean the open button, that if I push, causes virt-manager to exit ?

capabilities("X11"): Force refresh from within R? (... and minor documentation issue)
Is there a way to refresh capabilities("X11") without restarting R

X11 forwarding over SSH - yet another loop-hole ?
...ify this and there was no Firefox process running on the
second box, while there were two on the first ! I tried this a bunch of
times and still the same thing happened. I believe this is a security
loop-hole in the X11 forwarding over SSH. I've also tested this on a Windows
box using putty and Xming(or any other X windows client) and still the same
result. I would like to know if this problem has been addressed before and
if so what is the solution to this. I have also tried connecting to the
Linux boxes using the SSH -X flag and still the same result. Does this mean
that -X is not really tha...
