CentOS 7.4 fails to boot as Xen PV guest: resurfaces (now also) with centosplus kernel 693.11.6.el7
...a
different way ...
Thanks to the (great!) quick work on making the plus kernel available
(in #14330, thanks for that!) I was able to test the following combinations:
- 3.10.0-693.11.6.el7.centos.plus works fine on XenServer 7 HVM guests
- 3.10.0-693.11.1.el7.centos.plus works fine on XenServer 7 XenPV guests
- 3.10.0-693.11.6.el7.centos.plus crashes on boot for XS7 XenPV guests
immediately after the boot stage where the PS/2 drivers are loaded
Crashing does not depend on the amount of VM memory or #cores/sockets.
Also, the tell-tale "mm/vmalloc.c" failure output is no longer present...

[PATCH] virt-v2v: Check for firstboot before unconfiguring XenPV
Although not fatal, _unconfigure_xenpv should report a warning and return

Prototype to use QEMU for PV guest framebuffer
...isplay state.
This sounded very intriguing so I did a little experimentation today doing
exactly that. First of all I''ve copied tools/xenfb/xenfb.c into the
qemu/hw/xenfb.c file. Next I added a qemu/hw/xen.c file to provide the
implementation of the QEMU machine type - called ''xenpv''.
All the interesting code (all 100 lines of it) is in hw/xen.c in the
xen_init_pv method - which is called when using the ''-M xenpv'' command
line arg.
The first thing this does is get the domain ID - to avoid touching QEMU''s
command line args, I just use an...

[PATCH] tools: revert to using /var and /etc/
26470:acaf29203cf9 "tools+stubdom: install under /usr/local by
default" moved more stuff under /usr/local than was desirable.
In particular SYSCONFIG_DIR (configuration for initscripts) moved to
/usr/local/etc/{sysconfig,defaults} while the initscripts themselves
(correctly) remained in /etc/init.d. Moving /etc/xen/scripts breaks
the udev bakcned rules file. Lastly stuff under /var was

[PATCH] v2v: Fix RPM file owned test (RHBZ#1503958).
Linux.file_owner is not used by any other function, so remove it.
Linux.is_file_owned is only used when removing kmod-xenpv on old RHEL
releases, and so is only required to work for RPM.
The old file_owner/is_file_owned functions were completely broken.
This replaces them with a simpler, working implementation that only
covers the narrow use case of removing kmod-xenpv non-owned
directories.

[PATCH] v2v: Don't remove Processor and Intelppm nodes (RHBZ#1372668).
Don't remove the Processor and Intelppm nodes since that just breaks
the device driver.
The only remaining node being removed by the original code was
"rhelscsi" (the xenpv-win driver). I changed this so that instead of
deleting the whole node, it simply disables that driver. If you look
at RHBZ#737600, it's not even clear that deleting nodes was the right
fix for anything. I also renamed the function.

I think all this is #770456, feature/bug770456 branch in the packaging
xen.git. TBH I think this really ought to be fixed for Jessie.

Help on setting up a PVM
I''m going to set up a PVM on xen-3.3.1 debian-amd64. I need advices
about the best methods to install a fresh debian on it (i.e. how to
choose the kernel for pvm) . I''ve installed xen from sources and only
have one xen kernel in /boot which I''m using for dom0; should I use
the same kernel for domUs?
There is any problem on use vcpus=2; the other vm is an hvm running
