You mean you missed all the fun with Xenix on Radio Shack Model 16's
and SysV on AT&T's weird 3b machines?

I'm in for any major fun mirroring a SATA drive do let me know now - I
think hardware mirroring is not an option (yet!?) but I haven't checked
this out completely.
This isn't my first *nix/linux install - I go all the way back to Daisy

appropriate BTLD for this, but that won't help migrating existing VMs.
+ When I tried using 'scsi' libvirtd says this isn't supported. This
would be my preferred emulation as we have used SCSI drives since the
early days of Xenix on Tandy hardware.
+ The final problem if these are solved is that SCO is funny about its
drive geometry, and the current versions of libvirtd and qemu don't
appear to support the <geometry> allowing one to specify heads,
cylinders, etc.

Real sh? Or other efficient shell for non-interactive scripts
I'm sure most people here know about Dash in Debian. Have there
been discussions about providing a more efficient shell in Centos
for use with heavily invoked non-interactive scripts?
With sh being a link to bash in Centos I don't know if it would
explode if the link was changed to something else, but at least
the scripts we made on our own that run certain services could
be changed and

UPS has no built-in monitor. [GishPuppy]
...nes with monitoring, all I have are ones that have absolutely no connection for monitoring.
Many years ago, when monitoring just wasn't common yet, I developed a device to attached to a serial port and plug into an unprotected wall outlet and then wrote a C program to run as a daemon on my SCO Xenix systems to check whether that serial port could be opened or not. When the power went out, the device (not being connected to the UPS) would lose power, my program would not be able to open that serial port and the program would wait a couple of minutes (in case the power came back on) and then is...

negate the regexp in validates_format_of
...#39;'s validation system puts other database systems to shame.
However, the newbies might not know how to write a regexp that
excludes a match, instead of tests for it. Understand - I''m just
asking this question to help them. I have been using Regexps since
''grep'' on Xenix! But the newbies here might not know how to do this:
validates_format_of :field_must_break, :with => /\n/
validates_format_of :field_must_not_break, :with => /^[^\n]$/
The second one fails with data that correctly have no \n linefeed in them.
How do I - I mean "they" - negat...

that 'capability' was a holdover of the 1980s when disks were measured
in megabytes, and memory in kilobytes, so large file systems were
impractical.

Hylafax does not pick up.
We run the distro HylaFax on a CentOS-5.4 host. On infrequent
occasions we notice that the server will not pick up an incoming
call. It reports listening to modem rings.
Now, it seems to me that picking up the call should be under the
control of the modem but I notice that there exists a setting in
Hylafax for the number of rings before picking up. The default
value for this is 0 (zero) but we

Unix has never seriously been deployed on 8-bit systems.
Even oddballs like Xenix on 8088 and uCLinux on H8/300 are only ?8 bit? because of the external address bus. These are just gimped 16-bit processors, not true 8-bitters.
Unix started out on a PDP-7, an 18-bit machine, before moving to a PDP-11/20, which was 16-bit, but much more powerful than the -7. The reduction in wo...
