Where should my Xdefaults file be?
Apparently in order to get Japanese input working, I need to edit my Xdefaults file. By hunting on the web, I've read that I can create my own Xdefaults file, but it's been very difficult to determine where I should create it. I simply want to add the following line to this file: *inputMethod kinput2 ... so that Japanese input will be enabled. I want this setting...

Font Size for View()
Thanks for the feedback. At least on Windows, the font size for View() appears to be controlled by the font size specified under the Rgui preferences / Rconsole. I thought that under Linux, it might be controlled by some .Xresources/.Xdefaults setting. Ok, will wait for a bit but if nobody else has any suggestions, I'll ask on r-devel. 1600x900 not available
My laptop is a Dell XPS-13 running CentOS 7.? It has a 13" 1920x1080 screen and it's a bit difficult for my mid-40s eyesight.? Fedora and Debian, on this laptop, give me the option of choosing 1600x900 which is much easier for me to read but CentOS doesn't show this resolution as available. I followed the steps I found in a post on stackexchange using xrandr, substituting

R-alpha: Bugs in R-0.50-a1.
...R-0.49 and in R-0.50-a1. Problems in R: -------------- 1) The 'R Graphics' window does not have any X class or resource and therefore cannot be given a default size or geometry. Would it be possible to give the graphic window a class name so that the size could be specified in the '.Xdefaults' file? 2) It does not appear to be possible to specify the 'xlim' when using boxplot. This might also be the case in S but would be nice to have. Eg., when plotting several boxplots together, lets say 7. One would generally plot 4 first and then 3. Hence, if they are fitted on the same...

Font Size for View()
Hello, I am using Ubuntu 16.04, using the default (Unity) window manager. The font size using View() is way too small on a high dpi monitor. I already use scaling, but View() doesn't seem affected by that. Any suggestions for how I could tweak the font size here? Best, Wolfgang

linux, controlling device-window placement
Hi All, Is it possible to control the placement R's device windows, such as: > x() Or more generally, to passing X-resources? > x( geometry="500x200+0+0" ) Has anyone by chance worked out the possibilities for controlling R windows in .Xresources or .Xdefaults ? Apps segfaulting, problem with X?
Hello, I'm having big trouble getting wine to work. What I basically want to do is get steam to work, now it even fails to launch at all. It updates to 99% and then it segfaults. Other games has done this too (rollercoaster tycoon 2, starcraft 2). I followed the instructions on winehq, removed oriya/samyak fonts and I don't think I've done anything wrong - I've installed steam

MASQUERADE problem again...
Dear list members, Masquerading does''not work for me. This is a Mandrake Linux 10 system, but I use another kernel, that included in the original distribution (original: 2.6.3, now used 2.6.8 because of a lot of suck with OpenSwan with kernels prior 2.6.4). The problem seems to be similar or identical mentioned here:

Set font and size in xterm
I have a situation where gnome console does not handle vt102 escape sequences properly and therefor need to employ xterm instead. When I run xterm from a gnome terminal window I am presented with an extremely small terminal window employing an almost unreadably small font. I have attempted to set the font size using xrdb and a custom .Xresources file. I can change the colour scheme. I can

[Bug 85495] New: nouveau: xft fonts not rendered on Dell M4800 (QHD+)
...hard-to-describe situation. Nouveau X server comes up but text sometimes doesn't: on my xdm login the "Welcome to ..." appears, and the Login text, but entering my username the cursor just moves right and a few (2-3) pixel-sized dots appear where letters should. Emacs, with this in .Xdefaults: Emacs.font: DejaVu Sans Mono-14 ...comes up but blank: no menus, no mode bar, no "This buffer is for" in my *scratch* buffer. Grabbing the windowmanager titlebar and dragging the window just a pixel or two makes all text appear, until I change virtual desktops and come back again....
