gecko-libs dependency resurfaces
In doing an update of centos 5.2 this morning, I observed that the old gecko-libs dependency issue caused yum update to fail because it was required by nspluginwrapper (x64_86), devhelp, yelm and firefox. Also, a firefox (x64_86) showed the red hat splash screen rather than centos. Manual installation of affected rpms using --nodeps (I don't advise this) did not apear to impair the performance of any of the affected packages. Is everyone seeing this or do we h...

Why are multiple architecture rpms installed?
...ng, because an "rpm -qa | grep sqlite" only shows the package name, not the arch: sqlite-3.3.6-2 sqlite-devel-3.3.6-2 sqlite-3.3.6-2 sqlite-devel-3.3.6-2 When I later want to remove rpms, I always have to mention both archs explicitly: rpm -e sqlite-3.3.6-2.i386 rpm -e sqlite-3.3.6-2.x64_86 And sometimes packages have arch i686 as well. Or I get an error: rpm -e sqlite error: "sqlite" specifies multiple packages First I thought, that this might be an issue due to 32bit compatibility. But then I remembered, that I used CentOS 4 on 64bit, too, and there was no such probl...

ext3 4TB fs limit on amd64 (FAQ?)
Hi, I've a question about the max. ext3 FS size. The ext3 FAQ explains that the limit is 4TB. http://batleth.sapienti-sat.org/projects/FAQs/ext3-faq.html | Ext3 can support files up to 1TB. With a 2.4 kernel the filesystem size is | limited by the maximal block device size, which is 2TB. In 2.6 the maximum | (32-bit CPU) limit is of block devices is 16TB, but ext3 supports only up | to 4TB.
